Many people in the world are short of basic skills. That's why governments are paying attention to food education（教育） in schools. They want students to have a good relationship (关系) with food and know about its importance. 

Schools give kids different information on food. So, students learn about not only healthy eating but also food production (生产) . They learn to make different food, too. 

For example, UK students from 7 to 14 must learn to cook simple meals. In this way, students can learn a useful skill and good food habits. 

In the US, schools use a farm-to-school way. They buy fresh food from local farms for their restaurants. Students also go on field trips to the farms. In some areas, US students learn to garden, too. When they grow their own fruit and vegetables, they respect food more. They also try not to waste(浪费）it. 

Japan even has a rule on food education. Students can't miss breakfast, and they can't eat fast food. Students are living healthier lives because of good food education.

Nowadays plenty of kids are at home alone after school. Are you one of them? Kids who regularly take care of themselves are called"latchkey kids". 

This name got its start in the 1940s. Many men fought in the World War I I and women had to take jobs in factories to keep the country going. With both parents away, lots of kids went home to empty houses after school. Latchkey kids wore house keys around their necks and they used the keys to open doors. 

Today, it's common for both parents to work. As a result, a new generation of kids is spending some time alone after school. It becomes necessary for both parents and kids to make some rules. There are a lot of questions to talk about:

Should you call your mum or dad as soon as you get home?

Should you do your homework first?

Can you watch TV or play computer games? If so, for how long?

What can you eat if you want a snack?

Can friends come over? If so, how many?

As latchkey kids, knowing how to stay safe is just as important as following the family rules. Talk about the following questions with your parents:

What should you do when the phone rings?

What should you do if someone knocks at the door?

What should you do if someone breaks into the house?

Many people are trying to learn a new language. ①. Some of them consider it as a hobby, while others learn it because it is required by their jobs or study. As a foreigner who is really interested in Chinese culture, I like learning Chinese.

It is reported that a person needs to know at least 3,000 Chinese characters(汉字) to understand most Chinese newspapers.

②. However, some foreigners think it is so hard that they give up halfway. It's the most difficult part for me, too. But I manage to write each character by watching videos online. Whenever I see a character I don't know,③.我会把它写下来并且查阅它。 Slowly I can learn more and more characters that are common in daily life.

As for listening, I usually download(下载)a lot of listening materials and listen to them on the way to school, work and even dates with my friends. ④. I also practice listening by watching Chinese TV shows and films. In this way, I am able to learn how to express myself like a Chinese.

⑤.尽可能多地说中文也很重要。I practice talking about different topics in Chinese when I am cycling around, effectively talking to myself or in my head, thinking through different conversations and scenarios(场景). For example, ifI go to a shop,I will think how to say that in Chinese. It helps me to think in a Chinese way, which is really important.

Learning a language is never easy. Basically, I just use every tool on hand and take my learning step by step, and I'm still learning new things to this day!

Last Monday, we had an interesting and funny English class. In the class, we had a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}about TV shows in small groups. Here is what Li Dong, one of my classmates, thought of some TV shows.

Piano lessons for children were popular a few years ago. However, now more children learn traditional Chinese instruments such as the pipa, the guzheng and bamboo flute(长笛). Why do fewer children in China1 piano?
