重庆市主城区七校2023-2024学年高一下学期期末考试英语试题
Many of us are curious about what lies in outer space. When we look up at the night sky, we see stars, the twinkle of a moving satellite and (occasional) a distant planet. But the numerous pieces of junk (fill) up space is what we don't see. It's this debris(碎片) that is causing problems for the existing technology is up there.
Over the last tens of years, humans (launch) satellites and rockets into space, littering the universe as they go. It's believed there are now (million) of waste pieces of metal and other materials in orbit. The fear is that if we don't start taking this litter out of the sky soon, it will become significant threat to active satellites.
The UK Space Agency is funding new location systems this year (track) satellites and debris in space. Jacob Geer from UKSA said, "Space surveillance (监测) is one of the key things we can do to keep safe those satellites we rely now, and to make sure certain orbits become (access) for future generations." It's clear that a (solve) is needed so a deep clean can take place. But looking to the future, like any litter problem, we need to look at ways of creating less and that shouldn't be the stuff of science fiction.
