Some people ski(滑雪) down mountains. Others climb huge rocks. Why do people enjoy risky(有危险的) activities like these?

Some people take risks simply because it makes them feel good. Psychologists(心理学家) say that this kind of explorers(探险者) are always looking for change and excitement. When people do something risky, a chemical(化学物质) in the brain creates a pleasant feeling. They love this feeling and want to experience it more.

Other people don't take risks for the feeling of excitement but to achieve a goal. Mike Fay went on a dangerous 2,000-mile special journey in central Africa. He worked to help save the wildlife there. Fay's journey helped create 13national parks.

For other people, such as extreme athletes (极限运动员), taking risks is part of their job. Psychologists say extreme athletes see the world differently. Not like most people, extreme athletes feel in control in dangerous situations. The danger can even help them. For example, skier Daron Rahlves says that being afraid makes him try harder to succeed.

Most of us are not extreme athletes or explorers. However, we still take risks in our lives. Some of us take social risks, such as speaking in front of a large group of people. Sometimes, we take financial risks, such as buying a house. And sometimes we take career risks, such as leaving a job or starting a business. Most people take risks in some areas of life, but not in others. What kind of risk-taker are you?

Have you ever dreamed of traveling in space？To travel in space，we first have to work out where our food will come from. 

Today's space travellers don't go to the Moon or Mars. They go to the International Space Station （ISS）. There，the spacemen live for weeks to months. 

If you visited the ISS years ago，nearly every kind of food you ate would have come from the Earth. 

In 2014，scientists sent the ISS a space garden with some vegetable seeds（种子）. With water and some light, the vegetables in the gardern grew. Those were the first foods being grown on the Iss. But the spacemen couldn't eat them and had to send them back to the Earth. The next year，after scientists made sure they were safe，the spacemen grew a second crop. This time the vegetables were ready for the spacemen to eat. 

Gardening is different in space than it is on Earth. Without gravity，plants don't know which way is up. But they learn how to grow. They send their leaves in the direction of light and their roots into the soil. 

The spacemen also have grown vegetables as well as flowers. That's important to know a plant can flower in space，because flowering is part of how some plants make fruit. 

While the space garden is small for now，hopefully it could one day help provide people with food on long﹣time space trips. 

Have you noticed that some people succeed, while others may not? This is because some people own certain qualities while others don't have. If you want to be successful, you should remember the following things. 

The first thing you must remember is that in order to succeed, you must have a strong wish. If you do not expect to win, you will not try as hard as those who do expect to win. You also need to have a clear purpose and reason for doing something. If you do not have a purpose, you will not do your best to work hard and make sure that every detail you have done is right. 

Reading is another thing to remember, as it will help you learn about how other people have achieved success. If you want to learn how to set up a successful business, you should read books about some successful people who have achieved amazing success in their areas of business, such as Jerry Yang. 

Another thing that helps people succeed is creativity -- thinking about things differently and wondering how others will do the same thing. Think about some successful people you know. They might be successful with a little creativity, but the most successful people are the most creative ones. 

Practicing is essential if you want to succeed because practice makes perfect. Practice every day for the job you are in, and by doing so, you will see yourself, your business and your self-confidence begin to grow. If you feel confident about what you do, this confidence will make other people believe in you more as well. Your workmates will be happy to work with you, and your boss will give you more important things to do. 

Finally, if you succeed, you will get respect from people and do more for our world. 

Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mot looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print?

Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago, and was made from silk, cotton, bamboo and since the 19th century from wood. People learned to write words on paper to make a book. But it those days, only one book could be produced at a time by hand. As a result, they were expensive and rare. And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.

Then printing was invented in China. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning the 11th century, books could be produced quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.

Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CD ROMs or machines such as MP3 players.

Computers are already used in classroom, and newspapers and magazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced by computers one day? No, I don't think the Yao Ming poster on my bedroom wall will be replaced by a two-metre-high computer!
