Cai Zongqi is a teacher from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Having lived in the United States for nearly 40 years, he has spent around 30 years sharing his understanding of Chinese literature (文学) 1 his students.

In 2007, his book How to Read Chinese Poetrycame out. 2 book includes 143 famous Chinese poems. Cai said he couldn't find good teaching materials to perfectly explain 3 Chinese poems meant. With the help of the book, American students can understand Chinese poetry 4 than before.

The book 5 is so popular has been reprinted (再次印刷) time and again. Encouraged by this, Cai went on to write some more 6 including How to Read Chinese Prose (散文) .

Cai believes that reading Chinese poetry may help readers to look at 7 life from a new point of view and live a better life. Cai started the How to Read Chinese Poetry podcast (播客) in 2022 8 the beauty of Chinese poetry and literature to more people around the world. In the podcast, poems 9 aloud in English and Chinese with classical Chinese music in the background.

 That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home at I am in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away,I was still learning my lines(台词). I was having trouble dealing with my part- time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.

 As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers(强盗). Very few people were still out except a few sad- looking homeless people under blankets(毯子).

 About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

 Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

 Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside," Alisa Camacho?"I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red- haired man with a cheerful look in his eyes." Is this what you' re looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.

 It was nearly 3 am by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.

 Aishvarya and Vaishali live in America with their parents. Their grandparents live in India (印度).{#blank#}2{#/blank#} . To know them well, the sisters make a book. It's a good book. It has the sisters' questions(问题) and their grandparents' answers(回答).{#blank#}3{#/blank#} .

 To make the book, the sisters go to India to visit their grandparents. Their grandmother tells many stories, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . He is a quiet man. But he writes many stories.

 The sisters share the book with their friends. One of their friends says, "What a great book!{#blank#}5{#/blank#} ."

Rick, a school boy, had a love for playing video games. Every day, his 1 reminded him to take some exercise instead of playing video games. However, he didn't always 2 .

Once again, Rick's mom told him seriously that his eyesight(视力) might get poor if he spent too much time on video games. It was a pity that he still didn't listen 3 . He kept playing. One day, during a math class, Rick's teacher got 4 when he couldn't give an answer to a question like"2+2=?". After class, the teacher asked him why he couldn't solve such a 5 problem. Rick said that he knew the answer but couldn't see the board clearly. His teacher was worried and 6 his parents. Realizing what had happened, Rick's mom warned him again that it was harmful to his 7 to play video games too much. And Rick's dad took him to an eye doctor for a check-up. The 8 showed that his eyesight
