People can always learn from small things. When I was in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(第五) grade, I was chosen to be the princess in the school play. For weeks my mother helped me practice my lines. But once on the stage, every word disappeared from my head. Then my teacher asked me to change my role to be a narrator(解说者) for the play. I didn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(告诉) my mother what had happened, but she {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(注意) it and asked if I wanted to take a walk in the garden.

It was a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(温暖的) spring day. We could see dandelions(蒲公英) popping out through the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(草) in bunches(束). I watched my mother bend down by one of the bunches, "I think I'll {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(挖) up all these weeds(野草)," she said. "From now on, we'll only have roses in this garden."

"But I like dandelions," I said. "All flowers are beautiful, even dandelions!"

My mother looked at me in a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(严肃的) way. "Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?" I nodded. "And that is true of people, too," she added.

When I realized that she had guessed my {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(痛苦), I started to cry and told her the truth. "But you will be an excellent narrator," she said.

Thanks to my mother's encouragement, I got to know everybody had his or her own {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(价值) in the world. I felt {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(骄傲的) of my role in the play. This was a very useful lesson for me.

Miguel finally sees Dad. He's just back from a working trip. "How's your chess game, Miguel?"

"Mrs. Lambert says I'm the best chess player in the school! She says you teach me well."

"We'll play after dinner," Dad says.

At night, Miguel wants to help Dad clean out his suitcase (手提箱). "Wait, Miguel. I'll take my next trip next morning." "Oh, Dad!" Miguel cries. "But you just got here!" Miguel eyes the suitcase. When he was little, he got into the suitcase, thinking Dad could take him to work as well. Sometimes Dad traveled really far and it was day there when it was night for Miguel. They couldn't even talk by phone.

"I'll miss you," Dad says. He then pets a box from his suitcase and hands it to Miguel.

Miguel opens it. A beautiful chess set!

"Thank you, Dad!" Miguel cries. "It's so nice!"

It's an exciting game of chess. When Miguel's bedtime comes, it's still not over. "Keep it. We'll continue the game when we meet again, OK?" says Dad. 

Miguel carefully takes the chessboard to his bedroom. He looks at it, wishing the game could continue.

"Oh, that'll be a great idea!"

The next morning, when Miguel wakes up, Dad's gone. After studying the chess board for a minute, Miguel calls Dad and leaves a message: "Dad, it's me…"

A king is old and he knows it is time to choose a new king. He 1 to all the young people in his country,"I will give each of you a seed. Plant it and 2 it back here one year later. Show me the plants you bring, 3 I'll choose a new king from you."

A boy named Peter gets a seed, 4 . He looks 5 it carefully. But the seed doesn't grow at all.A year later, Peter has to take his empty box to the palace. Others all take beautiful plants there and Pe-ter feels 6 .

There are some {#blank#}1{#/blank#} rooms in our school. We like them and always want to go there. 

The library is a great place to read and learn. There are so many books in it and it's also a quiet place for {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. to study. We can go there every day and usually spend half an hour {#blank#}3{#/blank#} books. 

The art room is a colorful place. We can learn to draw, paint or make handicrafts (手工艺品) in it. There we use many materials (材料) to make beautiful paintings and handicrafts. We can go there {#blank#}4{#/blank#} class. 

The music room is our favorite place. It is not big {#blank#}5{#/blank#} very beautiful. There are different {#blank#}6{#/blank#} of instruments (乐器) and we can play the guitar, the piano or even the violin. We learn to sing songs and write songs. It's {#blank#}7{#/blank#} interesting place to enjoy music. 

The computer room {#blank#}8{#/blank#} us to learn computer skills (技能). We can learn how to find out information on the Internet. There {#blank#}9{#/blank#} a big screen on the wall and 60 computers on the desks. 

All these rooms are{#blank#}10{#/blank#} good for our growth (成长). They make our school a great place to study. 

Writing a story can be a fun and creative way to express your ideas and imagination(想象). But how do you go from a white page to a good story? Here are some tips to help you get started. 

Choosing a Topic

 The first step in writing a story is choosing a topic. Think about what you enjoy reading or what interests you. It could be adventure, fantasy, detective, romance tale, or myth. 

Understanding the Story Mountain

 The Story Mountain is a visual tool that helps you organize(组织) your story:

· Background(Introduction):

 This is where you introduce your main characters, setting, and any background information that's important for the reader to know. It sets the stage for the rest of the story and it should be written according to the topic. 

· Rising Action:

 This is the part where the story starts to move forward. Things happen and lead to conflicts(争执) or problems for your characters. It's important to create tension(紧张气氛) and keep the readers on their toes. 

· Climax(高潮):

 This is the most exciting part of the story. It's the turning point where the main conflict reaches its highest point. Often, this is where the biggest revelation(内情) or twists happens. 

· Falling Action:

 After the climax, the tension starts to lighten. This is where the characters face the outcome of the climax and start to move towards solving the main problem. 

· Resolution: This is the end of the story. It's where all the loose ends are tied up, and the main problem is resolved(解决). The resolution gives the reader a sense of closure and satisfaction(满足). 

Creating Characters

 Your characters are the heart of your story. You' ll need at least one main character and some other characters around. Sometimes, bad characters are important to the story too. Take time to develop them. Give them names, personalities, backgrounds, and goals. Think about how they would react to different situations. Conflict between characters can drive the story forward and keep it interesting. 

 With your topic, structure, and characters in place, it's time to start writing. And after finishing the draft(草稿), you should check and read it for many times to make it successful. 

The food in America is different from our Chinese food. For example, they eat a lot of potatoes. They like to eat them every day. They eat bread for breakfast and for another meals. They eat bread with butter, maybe cheese or jam. Cheese and butter are made from milk. They drink a lot of milk, too. They drink the milk in hot or cold, and they put it in their tea. And they like meat or fish with potatoes and other vegetables. After the meal they always have something sweet. They call that dessert.
