At night, you fall asleep while listening to beautiful music. In the morning, the singing of birds outside wakes you up. You can enjoy all of these things because of one important organ(器官)— the ear.

You may wonder: how do our ears work? The ear has three different parts: the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. The outer ear is the part you can see. It collects sound around you. The sound then travels down to the middle ear, the inner ear and then to your brain.

Your ears never stop working, even when you are asleep! Your ears continue hearing sounds, but your brain just ignores (忽略) them. That's why you may sometimes wake up suddenly in the middle of the night—your brain hears something, but you don't know what it is, since you are asleep.

But ears do more than hear. They help you keep your balance, too. In the inner ear, there are organs that are filled with liquid (液体) and covered in small hairs. When you move your head, the liquid and hairs move, too. They send messages to your brain about the position of your head.

More surprisingly, ears even help with tasting food. Of course, you don't actually taste food with your ears. But there are nerves (神经) running through the middle ear that connect the tongue (舌头) to the brain.

The ears are truly important. Everyone should make sure to protect their ears as well as they can.

There are many ways to enjoy learning English.

One of my students likes telling stories very much. I often ask him to tell a story in English before we have the English class. Can you guess what happens? Learning English is not hard

for him. He tries to remember a lot of English stories and tells them in English. We enjoy his English stories very much. If we don't under-stand him, he will translate(翻译) the stories into Chinese for us. Later he learns English well. We also learn a lot from his stories.

Another student has big problems with listening. She enjoys listening to songs. I offer her a lot of English songs without(没有) words. She wants to learn one of them. I advise her to write down the words one by one when she listens to the English song. She says she has never tried this way before. It is really helpful and her listening has been improved.

The two students have different experience of learning English.

What does it mean to be green? Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn't always easy. We need to consider the whole life cycle of the product even after it's of no use. Here is what we may keep in mind.

The materials of a product are usually our first focus (关注). What is it made of? Are there any harmful chemicals in it? Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health.

Packaging is important. How is a product packaged? Is it over packaged? We'd better choose glass, metal and paper packaging, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packaging or even choose unbagged products whenever possible.

Location (地点) matters. Where was a product produced? Where are we buying it? Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmer, shop at markets and buy fruits in season. Buying from stores near our houses is also a good choice, because we can go there without driving a car.

Look into what the company tells us about their products. It's easy to say that a product is "green" or "all natural" but the words may be too good to be true. So much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are  environmentally responsible.

The greenest thing is certainly the one we don't buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store and doing without. It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces (减 少) waste and keeps the planet healthy.

 {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Chinese people value and love their families. This love extends(延伸) to their communities, their nation, and beyond. That's why millions of people travel home for the festival. Celebrations for the Spring Festival last for 15 days and end with the Lantern Festival. During this time, families gather, enjoy festivals, and take part in in various cultural activities.

 {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. From dumplings to niangao, and from tangyuan to fish, all dishes carry good wishes for people's loved ones. Whether you are in China, from north to south, you can find special foods for the festival.

The Spring Festival also includes(包含) many traditions and stories. For example, people once used fireworks and red decorations(装饰) to drive a beast(野兽) called "nian" that hurt people and animals at the beginning of the new year. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.
