江西省九江第一中学2024年中考一模英语试题
It was a February afternoon. We were in a classroom. Taylor Angler watched some ducks swimming on a farm. But it was all in her head. A virtual reality headset (虚拟现实头戴式显示设备) took her there. "I was surprised to find that the ducks were right in front of me! It was an exciting experience (经历)." Taylor said after taking off the purple headset and finding herself still in the classroom. Many students around the world are taking VR "trips" like Taylor. But what change does it cause in learning?
Taking children to visit different places is a good way to teach them about the world. But what can children do if they forget it after the trip? VR lets children go back at any time.
It's difficult to talk about something if you didn't see it with your own eyes in the past. If you didn't see the ocean, with VR, now you can have a look at it for yourself.
VR can also help students in science classes at school. "Too often at school, when you do experiments (实验), you put different kinds of chemicals together and then get the result. And if you aren't successful, you need to do it again," a high school teacher said. "But we don't have enough chemicals. With VR, I just need to do it again on the computer. I don't have to use chemicals."
VR is useful, but that's not to say we don't need real-world experiences. The real world is what we really need to learn about.

Without the television set,the radio and more importantly,the computer,we will {#blank#}1{#/blank#} have any fun in our homes today. However,the people in the past had their own clever {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of enjoying themselves. For example,they made music without the use of computers but with tools made from wood and animal skin.
Travel was simple at that time. Most of the people were {#blank#}3{#/blank#} boat makers and they could make boats in a variety of shapes and sizes for travelling along the rivers and in the oceans. With increased skills and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} , the people learnt how to make the boats stronger against rains and storms.
Some things are basic for us nowadays,but the people in the past could live the lives to the full even without them. We should not look down on the wisdom of people long ago.
The human spine(脊柱) doesn't just help us stand up straight. Inside the spine is the spinal cord (脊髓) {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The legs and feet send "sense" information to the brain, saying they're hurt or hot, for example. And the brain sends messages to the lower body, telling the legs to walk, dance or sit down.
When someone's spinal cord is hurt, information about senses doesn't reach the brain from the lower body. And control messages can't make it to the lower body from the brain. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
Surprisingly, now scientists in Switzerland have given three paralyzed men the ability to walk again. All of the three men had damaged their spinal cords in motorcycle accidents and couldn't move their legs. To help them walk again, a special device (装置) was put directly on the lower part of their spinal cord.
The scientists controlled the device from a computer. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} In the past, scientists have had some successes with the similar device in the lower spine. Some patients have even trained themselves over months to be able to walk.
But this research is different. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Instead, the computer tells the device to send "walking" messages. The scientists use computers to create patterns of movement—like taking a step—that work well with each patient. The patients then choose the pattern they want, and the muscles (肌肉) move in the chosen way.
Over time, the three men are able to walk on their own, using a special walker with buttons to trigger (激发) each leg. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} The scientists are hopeful that in the future, this technology will allow more paralyzed people to walk again.
A. When that happens, a person is paralyzed (瘫痪的). B. The patients' brains aren't sending "walking" messages to their legs. C. The solution isn't perfect and the patients can't walk without the system. D. One of them has walked for half a kilometer on his own with the walker. E. It carries important information between the head and the lower part of the body. F. Just hours after the device was first used, all the three men were taking steps, with support. |
