A young man from a village called Nawalapitiya married a young woman from Maiyuwa, a small village. They lived with the man's big family—his parents, his brothers, their wives and children. The family kept an elephant, in which the woman soon took a great interest. Every day she fed it with fruit and sugar.

    Three months later, having quarreled with her husband, the woman went back to her parents' home. Soon the elephant refused to eat and work. It appeared to be ill and heartbroken. One morning after several weeks the animal disappeared from the house.

    It went to the woman's home. On seeing her, the elephant waved its trunk and touched her with it. The young woman was so moved by the act of the animal. So she went back to her husband's home.

One Sunday night，I was sitting in my kitchen half-listening as my 15-year-old son Tommy quarreled（争吵） with his younger brother Kevin. I didn't pay attention when Kevin went upstairs with a look of 1 on his face. 

About thirty minutes later，I heard Kevin 2 in his room. I knocked on the door immediately and asked，"Kevin，what's the 3 ？Why are you crying？"No answer. I tried again. Still 4 happened. So I took a piece of paper from a notebook and wrote，"If you don't want to 5 ，we can write down to each other. "and slipped（塞） it under the door.

My school will hold an English Week. The activity time is from 10 March to 15 March. All1 and English teachers will join in the activities. We will have many activities, such as singing English songs, holding speech contests, and watching English movies. But we have a 2 about the plan for the English Week, and all of us have  3 opinions. Some students think it could be a 4 of time, "We should learn English by ourselves, and studying in groups would 5 a lot of time. What's more, we have much homework to do, and there's no time 6 for us to do anything else." However, some other students said we should hold the activity of English Week because we can learn to 7 in groups in that way. It could 8 our English a lot. Studying together would be more interesting. I agree on the second 9 . We need after-class activities, and English Week is 10 useful and meaningful. I think it is worth well being held.
