What is the sky? How high is it? What color is it? What birds can live above it? These questions are difficult to answer, aren't they? In fact, the sky has no color. Then why does the sky look blue?

    We know that there is air around the world. When planes fly, they need air to lift their wings. Planes can't fly very high. That is because the air gets thinner when they go higher. The same will happen to us if we go high enough. If we go up about 1,200 kilometers from the earth, we'll find no air there. Some birds can fly into the sky as high as a plane, but they cannot fly or live without air.

    Looking up above us, you will see the blue sky with white clouds. It is usually light blue. The color would be bluer when you see on the top of a high mountain. And you will see fewer clouds in the sky between you and the sun. Sometimes the sky doesn't look blue. When the sun rises and falls, you will see red, orange and other colors in the sky, such are the most beautiful moments of the day.

    Who can see the colors of the sky high above the earth? The astronauts! They can see those beautiful colors of the sky from the outer space. However, before flying into the outer space, they sit in a spaceship high above the earth and there is no air at all. The sky would be that dark and its color would be black.

    Now you may understand that we see colors because the air scatters (使散射) the sunlight. Light travels through the air. Without air there would be no colors.

People drive in all countries (国家), but the rules can be different (不同). So you need to realize the rules before driving in other countries.

In the US, people can learn to drive at the age of sixteen. If you want to know the age in most countries, the answer is eighteen. Not every country lets young people drive. Some countries have special (特殊的) rules. In Cyprus, when people are driving, they can't eat or drink.

Driving on the right or left side of the road is also different. In Britain and Malaysia, people drive on the left. But people must drive on the right in the US, France and Canada. One country can also have different driving rules. People in Hong Kong drive on the left. But drivers in other places of China drive on the right, like Shanghai, Xi'an and Guangzhou.

There are other different driving rules between countries like using mobile phones. In Japan, people can't use mobile phones when they are driving, even if (甚至) they don't use them with their hands. But in Australia, drivers can talk on their mobile phones if they do not use their hands.

Zhalong(扎龙) is a nature reserve（保护区） in Heilongjiang in north-east China. It is one of the world's most important wetlands. The reserve covers an area of 210,000 hectares. The area provides food and shelter for wildlife. It is an ideal home for different kinds of plants, fish and birds.

Many birds live comfortably in Zhalong Nature Reserve all year round, while some only stay there for a short time. There are many fish in the wetlands, and the birds can easily catch them for food. Zhalong has long been called "the home of the crane". There are 15 crane species (物种) in the world. Eight of them are in China and there are 6 species in Zhalong area. It is an important living area for the rare red-crowned cranes. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world. Every spring and summer, red-crowned cranes lay and hatch (孵化) their eggs in Zhalong.

Some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife. More and more birds are in danger because they do not have enough living space. Many of them died. The Chinese government wants to protect these endangered birds, and they can be safe in Zhalong.

Every year, a lot of tourists go to Zhalong to watch birds. This year, members of our Bird-watching Club are going to study the different kinds of birds in Zhalong and the changes in their numbers. The study begins next month.

We ____ once a year. We are now inviting secondary school students to help. We need more people to help us count and do something to help the birds.

Many people do not understand the importance of the wetlands. We hope this information will help them understand and make them actively take action to protect wildlife.

Children in the United States think that the long summer vacation can be a great time to learn or to do something new. The long summer vacation is always from the beginning of June to the end of August. That means young children can spend more time relaxing. Some like to do some reading or drawing at home. Some spend time outdoor activities, hanging out(闲逛) with friends, playing sports or just enjoying nature.

It is also a great time for families to travel to see interesting places for a few days or weeks. Families sometimes go to big cities to see famous buildings or places, but usually they like to find quiet places such as beaches or mountain areas.

It is also fun to go to a camp. During the summer vacation, there are many camps for school children, such as horse- riding camps, computer camps, science camps and music camps. Most children enjoy joining different camps every summer. They can make new friends and have a lot of fun.

There are also some kids spending their time in doing voluntary work— work for free. Kids will clean or paint schools, sing for the old people or read to children. Parents would like their children to do voluntary work because most of them think it is a good way for children to show their kindness.

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Plath. She is my English teacher. She is my friend John's aunt, too. She is good to every student in my class. Everyone likes her. She gives us some interesting homework. It's relaxing for me to do the homework. 

Now Mrs. Plath is 40. She has many things to do. She has three classes a day. And she helps in the reading club after school. She helps children read and makes them love books. 

I think good teachers can make students love school. They have a good influence (影响) on their students. Mrs. Plath is a good teacher. I want to thank her. I want to be a teacher like her. 

 Sugar painting is a traditional Chinese form of art. Just as its name suggests, the paintings are made from. sugar. They can be either regarded as works of art or eaten as desserts. In and around China's southwestern Sichuan Province, it is usual to see. some folk artists producing sugar paintings along the streets, in the parks and around the schools.

 The art of sugar painting goes back to the Ming Dynasty, about 400 to 600 years ago. At that time, the upper- class people used sugar paintings as offerings to gods. Some common patterns were tigers, lions, dragons and so on. Later it became popular among the common people. In the Qing Dynasty, sugar painting became more popular. Many people made a living by making and

selling sugar paintings as desserts. The patterns for sugar paintings included all kinds of things that people liked.

 Sugar painting is very different from the other forms of painting. First, the artist doesn't use brushes, oil paints or paper to create paintings. instead, the artist uses brown sugar or white sugar as the main material, a spoon and a shovel as the tools, and a marble slab as the" paper". When the painting is done, the artist uses a wooden stick to hold it. Second. the artist has to produce the work very quickly, since it's nearly impossible to paint if the hot sugar cools down. Thira, the sugar painting is finished in one stroke, so the artist should design a pattern and the order of stroke in mind before any action. And the artist must follow the order while making the painting, or he/ she will ruin it. To know the whole process very well, the painter has to practice hundreds of times in the first place.
