One day, a father is doing some work when his son comes and asks,"Dad, can I ask you a question? How much do you make an hour?"

His father gets a bit bored and answers,"Why do you ask such a thing?" The boy says, "I just want to know. Please tell me." His father then says that he makes about $50 an hour.

"Oh, that's too much!"the little boy answers with his head down. Looking up, he says,"Dad, can I please borrow $30?" The father gets angry and says, "That's why you ask about my pay? If you want to borrow some money to buy a boring toy, then you'd better go back to your room. I work hard every day and I do not like such a thing."

 ▲After about an hour or so, the man calms

down. He goes to the boy's room and opens the door."Are you sleeping, son?"he asks. "No, Dad,"the boy answers. "I am thinking—maybe I am too hard on you earlier," his father says. "Here's the $30 you want."

The little boy sits up with a smile. Then, he takes out $20 from his schoolbag, and looks up at his father. He says,"Dad, I have $50 now. Can I buy one hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

With no words, the father's eyes turn red.

When I was walking back home at around 12：15 pm during my lunch break one day，an apple came flying toward me. It landed just before my feet. I was surprised and thought I was very lucky not to get hit by it. 

The apple was thrown over the fence by a school student. I live opposite a school. A wall separates my apartment building from the school. 

Thinking it was a one﹣off experience，I told my friends，and we laughed about it. 

Then，the week after，I was walking along exactly the same spot at exactly the same time and bam!Another apple came over. This time it landed on the roof of a shed（棚屋）

"Is it my destiny（命运） to get hit by an apple？"

Last week I was walking back home. I checked my phone. It was 12：15 pm. I kept thinking about those two times before when I'd seen an apple thrown over the wall. But suddenly，my thoughts were interrupted by ANOTHER flying apple!This one was a big one. Only one bite（一口） had been taken out of it

Enough was enough. Someone could be really hurt by these apples. Did the student（s）not realize that people live across the wall？Or do they not care？

I told my friend about it. "You should just throw the apple back over the wall. That will teach them，"my friend suggested. But I don't want to play that "game". As they say，an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. Besides，I might end up hurting someone when I throw it back. 

Maybe I'll call the school and let them know. The student（s）responsible need to know that they might end up hurting someone if they keep throwing their waste. What's more，waste belongs in the bin

You don't have to be a scientist to solve big environmental problems. One Dutch designer is finding creative ways to make a change - and he's inviting bikers to join him. 

Daan Ronscgaarde. 38, is a designer from Holland. He uses creative ideas to improve city life. For his Smog（雾霾）Free Project, he designed a special tower that cleans air in Chinese parks. In Holland, he designed a shining bicycle path. 

Now Daan and his team are working with engineers at Chinese bike - sharing company Ofo to create a new product for public use. It's an air - cleaning machine connected to a bicycle and is part of the Smog Free Project. In smoggy weather, the machine would breathe in the air in front of the bike and blow out a stream of clean air toward the biker's face. 

It's no secret that air pollution is a big problem for China. In winter, it's common for thick clouds of haze（霾）, caused largely by factory production, burning of coal and car emissions（排放物） to cover areas of China. 

In 2016, only one - fourth of Chinese cities met the country's air quality standards, according to a survey of 338 cities nationwide from the Ministry of Environmental Protection " 

Of course one tower and a few bikes won't solve China's air pollution problem, " Daan said. " But smog - free bikes are an exciting idea that will hopefully inspire communities to create greener cities. "

A mother went home after a long day's hard work. Her 8-year-old daughter ran up to her. She was waiting for her mother and wanted to tell her something about her younger brother. 

"While I was painting a picture and Dad was on the phone, Tyler took his crayons and wrote on the wall! I told him you would be angry with him for doing it again, but I couldn't stop him,"the daughter said. 

"He did it again? Where is your little brother now?"

"He is in his room. "

The mother walked to her younger son's room. She called his full name as she came in. Then, she found Tyler trying to hide under the bed. He knew that the worst time was coming. For the next 10 minutes, the room was full of the sound of the mother's shouting about the expensive wallpaper. 

Then she went to the living room to see what was on the wall. As she saw the wall, her eyes were full of tears at once. It said"I love you, Mum" with a heart on the word"love". 

How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? Do you know there is a scientific (科学的) reason for this?

Scientists are studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language. 

"Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain (大脑) likes to remember things in a catchy and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song," said Dr Lude. "If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages," Dr Lude wrote, "a listen- and- repeat (重复) singing method can support foreign language learning, and open the door for future research in this area."

Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in America, likes using songs to teach Chinese. " We usually use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics (歌词), so it's easy to start because they know the music, " she said. "Sometimes I think if I learnt English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better than now."

Our brain likes music in learning languages. especially (尤其) for remembering. If you are still having some problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?
