Ever since "Mother Nature" gave me life, I expected to grow tall and big.

As a young 1 , I was well protected in the forest. I used to 2 a good time with my friends under the blue sky and 3 the river. Our only purpose was to stand high. My pal, Tim often said, "All I ask for is to be 4 the whole day."

365 days passed and we grew straight. On that day, it was our 5 birthday, people came, moved us from the 6 and put us on their trucks. "I don't want to go!" Tim cried.

After a long journey, we arrived in a completely different place with 7 green. Here we were planted in a line. 8 the wind blew strongly, I could not even open my eyes to see Tim 9 beside me. So we needed enough 10 to grow thicker and higher to stop the wind.

As time went by, we finally 11 much stronger. I could keep my eyes open in the wind! I even found the blue sky was back!

This was no longer a no-man's-land, and hundreds of visitors came here. A man took a picture of us with his 12 . "Thank you. We can enjoy clear days 13 worrying about sand storms." A young girl jumping up and down came over and 14 me. "Thank you," she said. "It's you that have turned the desert into a green land!"

Tim and I smiled at each other, feeling 15 . The sun was shining brightly in the bluer sky.

It's Friday morning. The weather is cool. Lucy sees her friend Alice." Alice, I'm sorry. I can't go to play table tennis with you tomorrow. I know it's your favourite sport," Lucy says." But can you see that brown dog? It is Mrs Green's dog. Mrs Green wants me to look after(照顾) it tomorrow."

" Oh, what a cute(可爱的) dog! What's her name?" asks Alice.

" Her name is Mona. She is 2 years old."

" Let's play with her tomorrow. I like dogs, too," says Alice.

"OK. That's good!" Lucy says." It's time for school. Let's go now."

He was an old man who fished alone in a boat and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him. But after forty days without a fish, the boy's parents had told him that the old man was now salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.

It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and he always went down to help him carry fishing tools.

The old man was thin with deep wrinkles（皱纹） in the back of his neck. His hands had the deep scars（伤疤） from dealing with heavy fish. But none of these scars were fresh.

Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and full of confidence.

"Santiago", the boy said to him as they climbed from the bank where the boat was pulled up. "I could go with you again. We've made some money."

"No," the old man said. "You' re with a lucky boat. Stay with them."

"But remember how you went eighty-seven days without a fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks."

"I remember," the old man said. "I know you did not leave me willingly."

"It was papa who made me leave. I am a boy and I must do what he told me to."

"I know. I quite understand that."

"He hasn't much faith （信念）."

"No," the old man said. "But we have. Haven't we?"

"Yes," the boy said. "Can I offer you a beer on the Terrace and then we'll take the fishing tools home?"

"Why not?" the old man said. "Between fishermen."

They sat on the Terrace. Many fishermen made fun of the old man and he was not angry. Some other older fishermen looked at him and were sad. But they didn't show it and they spoke politely about the sea, the weather and of what they had seen.

A man went to the city to sell apples. He met an old man and asked, "How long will it take me {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the city?" The old man replied, "It will {#blank#}2{#/blank#} you. If you go slowly, you' ll get there faster. But if you go fast, it' ll take {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ." The man did not understand but made his horse go faster. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} , every time he did, some apples fell out of the basket, so he had to stop and pick them up. After many stops, the tired man {#blank#}5{#/blank#} understood the old man's meaning.

I'm Robert and I live in Shanghai now. Last weekend, I went to a village for a vacation with my friends. 

My trip started early in the morning at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. After two hours on the train to Ningbo and more than two hours on the bus, I arrived at the village: Fengpuao. Fengpuao looks so small on the map, but 2, 000 people live there, next to a lake and forests. 

I stayed with my host family (寄宿家庭) for two days. They told me that I could call them Mama and Baba. 

They had a daughter called Eva and she showed me around the garden and told me how to grow vegetables. I also went with Baba to a bamboo forest. Then we went to the lake to go fishing. In the evening, my family and friends came over. We had a big dinner together. 

The next day I woke up with the song of birdsi. After breakfast, we went to work on the farm all day.  It was hard but very interesting. That evening I came back to Shanghai. 

The trip was short, but it made me relax from the busy life. And it was a great time together with my host family. 

Last winter holiday, I went to an island with my parents. The island is 142, 000 {#blank#}1{#/blank#} metres. We had breakfast at {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 9:00 am. The {#blank#}3{#/blank#} there were different from those in cities. I took lots of pictures there.
