If you want to be a better reader, what should you know about the speed of reading? Some people read very quickly and others read very slowly. But which one is better? The quick reader may be a good reader when he reads a storybook for fun. But he may not be able to slow down to read instructions(说明书) carefully. The slow reader may be a good reader. But he may spend too much time reading a story for fun. So the reader who reads everything quickly or the one who reads everything slowly isn't really a good reader. Knowing why you are reading or what you are reading can help you to know whether(是否)you need to read quickly or slowly. Some things should be read slowly. You must read these things slowly all the time to understand and remember everything important. Examples(例子)are instructions for making or doing something. Also, math books, science and even some storybooks are full of important information. However, some things should be read quickly. Examples are picture-books for enjoyment, letters from friends , and some quick news from newspapers.

In some of your reading, you must change your speed from fast to slow and slow to fast. You will need to read some pages quickly and then slow down and do more carefully reading when you come to important ideas. So, knowing when to change your reading speed is one important symbol of being a good reader.

More public high schools in the US are getting students from abroad, especially from China. Stearn High Schools is one of them. Next autumn, the school hopes to haye{#blank#}1{#/blank#} 100 Chinese students. Why would they want more Chinese students? According to Ken Smith, the principle(校长) of Stearns, Chinese students want to go to America to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a better chance of going into an American university. At the same time, because Chinese students are known for high test scores, the school can get a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ranking(排名). Lei Huang, 16, from Shanghai, is studying in Camden Hills High school in Maine this year. "Schools in China demand(要求) long days in the classroom and long nights doing homework," he said, " Here, the teachers {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to students' creativity and interests."

①It is widely known that China has the best high-speed railway network (网络) in the world. Now, the country is breaking its own speed(速度) record with CR450. 

②CR450 can travel at 400 kilometers per hour on average, with a top speed hitting 453km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train operating in a rail network in the world is China's CR400, which runs at 350 km/h on average. Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment. 

③"The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake (刹车) accurately (精准地) and steadily (平稳地), " Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. The standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance as the CR400, which is 6, 500 meters, even though it travels a lot faster. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1. 7 seconds compared to the 2. 3 seconds needed for the CR400. 

④The engineers did lots of tests with the brakes to make the system better. In the tests, the brake disc (制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700℃. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system for calculations (计算). 

⑤Besides having a better braking system, the CR450 has the same noise level as the CR400. Moreover, it is 12 percent lighter and 20 percent less energy-consuming (耗能的), according to CCTV News. With all its advantages, people are getting excited about the train's debut (首次亮相), which is planned to be within this year.
