Rare Monkeys of Tongren, Guizhou
In Tongren, Guizhou, there are two special kinds of monkeys: theGuizhou golden snub-nosed monkey and the Francois'langur.
The Guizhou golden snub-nosed monkey is very rare. There are only around 800 of them in the world, and they all live in the FanjingMountain National Nature Reserve(自然保护区). This kind of monkey has an upturned nose and yellow hair on its head. So, if you visit Fanjing Mountain during the breeding season, you might see mothers carrying their cute golden babies.
There are about 2,000 of them in the world, and one-third of them live in the MayangRiver National Nature Reserve. Baby Francois' langurs are also golden when they are born. But when they turn one year old, their backs become black, and they grow a black"mohawk"on their heads. At night, they hide in caves to sleep. The special rocks and landforms in theMayang River National Nature Reserve make it a perfect home for them.
