Fleming saw many soldiers die from infections (感染) in their wounds as he worked in a hospital during World War I. This made Fleming decide to find a way to help the body fight infections. 

In September 1928, Fleming left some glass dishes on a bench in his laboratory for two weeks. When he came back, he noticed something puzzling. Bacteria (细菌) were growing on all the glass dishes except one. On this dish mould (霉菌) had started to grow—the kind found on old bread. The mould seemed to be giving off something that stopped the bacteria from growing. Fleming called it "mould juice". He tried it on other bacteria, and it killed them, too. Fleming became wild with joy and named it penicillin. 

Unfortunately, Fleming's boss thought he was wasting his time and it was impossible to kill bacteria at that time. Fleming did a few more experiments with penicillin, and he also wrote about it so other scientists could learn about it. However, because no one seemed interested in his discovery, he forgot about penicillin and started to work on other things. 

In 1939, Ernest Chain, a scientist, and his boss, Howard Florey, were looking for medicines that could kill bacteria. They discovered Fleming's notes and decided to test penicillin. In 1940, they gave penicillin to some sick mice, who survived later. But those who didn't get it died. Florey declared: "It looks like a miracle!" By 1943, the final tests on humans were finished successfully and the world had its first antibiotic (抗生素) medicine.

Children's Day is next Sunday, but Dong Fei is not happy. Her father is in Beijing. He is very busy and can not come back to Nanjing. Now, Dong Fei is in her room with Lin Min, her cousin. Dong Fei says,"I don't think I'm important(重要的) to my father. He is always busy with his work. Next Sunday is Children's Day. But he can not come back."

What do you usually do on weekends? Last Saturday, I helped my {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(亲戚) in his garden, a place that always makes me happy. The garden was a bit messy, so we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(决定) to clean it up. Next to the big oak tree in the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(中心的) part of the garden, we planted new flowers to make it look nicer.

We worked {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(耐心地),digging ,watering, and trimming(修剪). We felt the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(温度) of the sun on our backs as we worked.Each task needed {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(注意), and we tried to do everything {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(正确地). As time went by, we got a bit {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(累的), so we took breaks under the tree and enjoyed the quiet.

At one point, a friendly {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(陌生人) came by and asked how to get to a nearby park. I smiled,stood up, and gave him {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(方向). By the end of the day, the garden looked great, and I felt really proud of what we had done.

Huang Wenxiu is one of the role models of the times. A TV play—The Daughter of The Mountain told us her story. It has received lots of praise from viewers online.

When Huang was in college, the problem of serving her hometown came to her. After graduating from Beijing Normal University, Huang moved to Baise, her hometown. She said, "I grew up in a mountainous area where quite a number of people live in poverty (贫穷). And all I wish is to do my part to change their life."

But Huang soon discovered that her job was not easy. She had been concerned about the village development for a long time. It took her two months just to visit the 195 poor families through the village.

Huang encouraged villagers to plant sugar oranges, and she helped them learn about how to sell their products online. Thanks to Huang's hard work, 418 villagers finally broke away from poverty.

But sadly, on June 16, 2019, Huang lost her life at the age of 30 because of a flash flood (暴洪).After she passed away, the mountains and rivers there will not forget her, and the people there will not forget her.

 Once upon a time in a small town, there was a young boy named Tim who always felt bored after school. His afternoons were filled with nothing but the same old routine(常规事), and he longed for something exciting.

 One day, as Tim was walking home from school, he noticed a group of his classmates playing baseball in a nearby park. They were passing the ball loudly and happily. Tim felt a pang of pity for himself, as he had never been part of such an enjoyable activity.

"What's the matter, Tim?" asked his friend, Sarah, noticing his unhappy feelings. Tim answered, "I wish I could join them, but I' ve never played baseball before, and I'm afraid I' ll be bad at it."

 Sarah, being a confident(自信的) and encouraging classmate, said, "That's no problem at all! We can learn together." After that, she explained that there was a volleyball game later. They could practise passing the ball for that.

 Feeling hopeful, Tim agreed to join Sarah for some practice. They went to the school's volleyball court, and she taught him how to pass the ball with confidence. Tim found the activity to be both relaxing and enjoyable, and he began to score points in their friendly matches.

 As the days went by, Tim's skills improved, and he became less bored after school. He started to look forward to the chance to play with his classmates. He went from being a boy who. found everything boring to one who was excited about after-school activities.

 One day, during a close and exciting game, Tim made a fantastic play that helped his team win. His classmates cheered loudly, and he felt pleased and proud of himself. He realized that trying new things and stepping out of his comfort zone(区) could be exciting and rewarding(值得的).

 From that day on, Tim's life was far from boring. He enjoyed the journey of learning new sports and making new friends. He learned that sometimes, all it takes is a choice to change one' s life for the better. And so, Tim's after-school hours became a time of enjoyment, growth, and the magic of discovering new interests.
