When people talk about air pollution, they usually think of smog, acid rain (酸性雨), and other forms (形式) of outdoor air pollution. But did you know that air pollution also is inside homes, offices, hotels and other buildings？Indoor air pollution is more serious. The air in your home can be 2 to 100 times (倍数) more polluted than the air outdoors！In fact, some American doctors say that 50% of illnesses have something to do with polluted indoor air. Indoor air pollution is bad for our health in many ways. Young children and the old often suffer(遭受) more from air pollution. People with health problems may also suffer more when the air is polluted. Indoor air pollution can be bad for people's eyes, nose and throat. Air pollution, both indoor and outdoor, can also lead to cancer, heart disease, and even bad for the brain！In the great London fog in 1952, 4, 000 people died in a few days because of air pollution！It is said that half a million young kids and women die each year in India because of indoor air pollution！

There're many ways to reduce (减少) indoor air pollution. Here are some of them and see if they can help you：

★Increase outdoor air coming indoors and open your windows for 15 to 30 minutes each day.

★Turn off all the lights and fans when you don't need them.

★Share your room with others when the air conditioner is running.

★Don't smoke and try to stop your family members from smoking. People who smoke are going to have trouble breathing and even die someday. If you're smart, don't ever start.

★Environment-friendly products, such as water-based paints pollute less and work well.

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping offered to build a Silk Road Economic Belt (经济带) and a 21st Century Maritime (海上) Silk Road, which became known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, "一带一路"倡议). The BRI has brought cultures together for over ten years. As the BRI continues to bring the world together, young people from the Belt and Road countries can see how it continues to develop and have a deeper understanding of it. We did a survey of 125 Chinese students. The following survey is about BRI in the eyes of the students. The diagrams (图表) below show the results.

What do people do with their old, out of date but still useful computers? Most people don't know how to deal with them. Many old computers are put away. Many more are simply thrown away as rubbish.

Finally, some companies are thinking of ways to bring down the number of old computers. Sony has agreed to help recycle old Sony products(产品). Dell, Hewlett Packard and other companies now also take back some old computers of their own brands.

In some countries, laws have been passed, too. Computer companies have to pay for collecting and recycling their used products. And 70% of computer waste must be recycled. The idea behind the laws is that computer companies themselves should pay for the cost. That will encourage them to make computers which are easier and cheaper to repair and upgrade(升级).

Yet many people are throwing away good computers, while others cannot afford them at all. Hundreds of organizations are working on this problem. They collect and repair old computers. Some also teach others how to repair computers. These repaired computers then go to schools, charities(慈善团体) or people who need them. Giving a used computer to one of these organizations can turn one person's rubbish into someone else's useful things and cut down waste, too.

In October, Chinese people can enjoy a one-week National Day holiday (假期). People spend (度过) their holiday in different ways. Some people may get together with their family. Some people may do some shopping. Others may visit some places with friends. There are so many people in these places. And this will bring some problems (问题). For example, food in these places will be more expensive. 

But at the Laojunshan scenic spot (景点) in Henan, visitors can have a good time eating the cheapest lunch. The workers there make special local food for them. The most interesting thing is that visitors can eat a bowl (碗) of lunch with only one yuan. The one-yuan lunch helps hungry visitors a lot. 

During the National Day holiday, the workers make 25, 320 bowls of lunch. But they get 26, 147 yuan, 827 yuan more than they should. They feel very surprised and try to find the reasons (原因). Finally, they know it is because some visitors want to thank these workers for their help and kindness. 

"Another bad day at school?" my father asked as I came into the room.

"How could you tell? I didn't shut the door heavily or anything," I replied. Over the past two months I had either done this or thrown my backpack across the room every time I came home from school. Papa thinks it has something to do with moving to a new house.

"I know this move has been hard on you. Leaving your friends and cousins behind is tough," Papa said, as he put his arm around my shoulder. "What you must remember is that, with a lot of hard work and some time, you will make new friends."

"You don't know how hard it is. This year my baseball team would have won the championship. They won't even give me a chance to pitch(投球) here. All I get to play is right field, and that's the worst!"

 Papa turned toward me. "Things will get better, I promise you. Let me ask you, do you know why you were named David Lorenzo?"

"Yes, your name is David and grandfather's name is Lorenzo."

"Very good, and what makes your grandfather so important?"

"He was the first in the family to come to this country and all that," I answered.

"That is only partly correct. Your grandfather was a very great man. In Mexico, he had been a teacher. When he came to America, he could only get low-paid labour jobs because he didn't speak the language. It took him two years before he spoke English well enough to be allowed to teach here, but he did it. He never complained because he knew change could be difficult. Did he ever tell you that?" my father asked.

I looked down at my feet, ashamed at my behaviour. "No. That must have been hard," I said sheepishly.

"Your grandfather taught me that if you let people see your talent, they will accept you for who you are.I want you to always remember what my father taught me, even if it takes a few years for people to see who you are," said Papa.

All I could say was, "Okay." Then I asked, "What should I do now?"

Laughing, Papa said, "How about you pitch a few to me? You need some work."
