Tom is an American boy. He's tall and healthy. He likes {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sports very much. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} is his favorite. so he often watches basketball games on TV. He thinks the games are great. Tom often plays basketball with his friends on {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. One day, he went to the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} with his friends. They had a basketball game with the boys in No. 2 Middle School, They played very well, but at last they lost the game. They felt very {#blank#}5{#/blank#} After the game, Tom sat down and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} with his friends. Then, a man walked to them. Wow! The man is a great basketball {#blank#}7{#/blank#} in the city. Many people know him. He's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} with his students. Some of the basketball players in CBA are his students. The man said Tom played very well. He asked him to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the city basketball club, It's really a piece of good news for Tom. He will make new {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and become a good player in the club.

When I was a child, I lived in a small house with my parents. We lived in a 1 , not in a big city. There wasn't a comfortable (舒适的) bedroom or living room 2 my family. All of us crowded in a 3 room. The bathroom and the kitchen were public(公共的). Several families 4 one. The life was a little difficult,5 I was happy. 

I studied in a primary school there. The teachers were 6 me. Maybe I was kind of naughty at that time. But I was friendly to all the 7 . All my classmates liked to 8 with me. They were nice to me. 

At that time, watching a movie in the 9  was really expensive. I always saved money for a long time 10  to watch a movie. Cartoons were my favourite at that time, and I 11 got bored with them. 

Now, many years have passed. I don't12 with my family now. I don't need to save 13 just for a movie. And 14 is as strict as my teachers in the primary school. Are these good 15 ? Maybe they are. But sometimes I just want to go back to the time when I was a child. 

When I was a child, watermelon (西瓜) was too expensive for my family. One of my father's friends, Bernie,was a rich businessman. He owned a large fruit store in another place.

Every summer, when the first watermelons arrived, Bernie would give us a call. My father and I would go to Bernie's place. We would sit on the dock (码头) happily and get ready for a big meal.

Bernie would take a big watermelon out, cut it up, give us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we three would put our faces into the watermelon, eating it happily.

In my father's eyes, Bernie was a real rich man. I always thought it was because he was a successful businessman. Later I learned that it was not Bernie's money that made my father think like that. My father thought he was rich because of the way he lived his life. Bernie knew when to stop working, get together with friends and enjoy his "watermelon".

When I grew up, because I was too busy making money as a doctor, I forgot the lesson I once learned on the dock. Well, now I've relearned it. Though (尽管) I'm still busy working as a doctor, I will try to slow down and take the time to enjoy the small pleasures (快乐) of my life.

As a child, cultural historian and writer Sofia Ake l often stayed at the local library." The library near the East London estate(庄园) where I grew up was where I developed my interest in reading as a child," she said.

Akel soon realized that many people couldn't afford books. Later, she started the Free Books Campaign, an organization with the goal of giving books to those who can't buy them." We've donated(捐赠)6,000 books to people in the UK and Ireland so far," Akel said.

The organization is funded by donations, and anyone càn request a book they'd like to read. Akel believes that reading should be something that everyone can take part in." Without the library, my worldview, my imagination, and my vocabulary would have been reduced," she continued.

In its third year of operation, the Campaign held the Free Books Festival in Peckham, Southeast London. Over a weekend, they gave away about 3,000 books.

Estelle, a biochemistry graduate, went to the festival with her friends." It's important that events like this exist," she said." With events like this, it means I'm able to enjoy my love for reading and find new books." When asked about her book selections, Estelle said,"I chose Good Intentions by Kasim Ali.I got my book signed by him during the event. It was very exciting because I'd never met the author of a book I'd read in person."

Data suggests that accessing books at a library has become increasingly challenging. According to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), library book stocks.(储存) reduced by 11 per cent across England, Wales and Scotland between 2021 and 2022. So organizations like the Free Books Campaign are making a huge difference in the lives of many people around the world.

Today, I am going to start work in the plant. The working time starts at a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(一刻钟) past seven. 

I work in {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(工场) 1001 in the Leaf. My main job is to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(收集) sunlight and CO₂ during the day. And workers from the Root will {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(送出) up water, and the water will {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(上升) up to the Leaf through the Stem. Then, workers in the Leaf will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(混合) water, CO₂ and sunlight. Finally, they will produce some {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(生成物). One is sugar. It helps the plant grow. Another is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(氧). It is useful for animals and humans because they need it to breathe. 

Every day, I work hard until it gets {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(黑暗的). After a night's rest, I begin to work hard again the next day. I am trying my best to make plants grow well and make the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(自然的) world better and better.
