Twenty years ago, my father, John, wanted to be a businessman. He wanted to be rich. So he worked very hard and every day he went home very late.

    One night when he came home from work, a robber stopped him and wanted to take his money. My father was very afraid. He didn't want to lose his money. But he didn't know what to do. Luckily a policeman came and caught the robber. My father thanked the policeman politely.

    Now my father is a policeman. He wants to help other people.

A grandmother, dressed in hanfu, impressed(使印象深刻) hundreds of thousands of people with her beauty and love for life.

Her grandson Liu Haochen made the first short video and the video received 1.76 million likes on the Internet within a month. Now known as vlogger(视频博主) "Hanfu Grandma" with more than 550,000 fans, she has tried on many different costumes. Liu, also a lover of hanfu, said he wanted to share happy memories with his grandma and to record her life at an old age. And he found she is quite suitable for the clothing.

The grandma said she agreed Liu to shoot a video for her. "I don't really know what it was about at the time. I thought it would be good to spend some time with Chenchen," she said, as Liu had been busy working far from home.

She once took part in a fashion (时尚) show in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, with performers much younger than her. When the show began, it was raining, but she said she quite enjoyed it. "When I was on the stage, the audience(观众) kept shouting my name. I was very cheerful," she said.

Most of her videos are filmed outdoors, with some at scenic spots in different cities, often with other young hanfu lovers. For her, it's more like travelling than filming. Along with videos about hanfu, she also shares her daily life —shopping, drinking milk tea and playing with cats. She said life has become more interesting compared with before, and she is as energetic as a young person.

There are many things in life that impress you deeply. For me, there is one thing I still remember now. 

One year, my family and I were on vacation in southern Mexico. When we were enjoying the beautiful sights near the sea,1 that was bright silver caught my eyes.

It was a ring! It looked expensive. It must be worth thousands of dollars, and the owner must 2 a lot. When I got back to the hotel, I took the ring to the manager and told him that I found it in the water off the beach. He promised me that he would send out a message that a ring had been found.

That evening, while having dinner, we heard a woman cheering in a loud voice. She had just got the ring back! I saw 3 standing with the hotel manager. He raised his hand and pointed at me, and then the woman 4 came over and introduced herself. She told me that she swam with the ring and 5 it that morning. When she went back to the beach to 6 it, she failed. We had a dinner together, celebrating our good luck that night. That day was so special for both of us, and it was 7 Christmas in July.

The next day when I checked out of the hotel, the bill had been paid by the woman. I felt touched. I have to say that when I saw that ring for the first time, I had an idea to 8 it or sell it. However, it didn't take me long to realize that the only thing to do was to look for 9 the owner was. I was so glad that I had done the right thing when I saw the 10 look on that woman's face after she got her ring back.

Sometimes, when something happens, you may hesitate (犹豫),11 you know what the right thing to do is. When you do it, you will feel good about it, and perhaps you can also get an 12 surprise. This is the lesson I learnt that day.

Many people are trying to learn a new language. ①Some of them consider it as a hobby, while others learn it    because it is required by their jobs or study. As a foreigner who is really interested in Chinese culture, I like learning Chinese.

It is reported that a person needs to know at least 3,000 Chinese characters (汉字)to understand most Chinese newspapers.

②However, some foreigners think it is so hard that they give up halfway. It's the most difficult part for me, too. But I manage to write each character by watching videos online. Whenever I see a character I don't know, ③我会把它写下来并且查阅它。Slowly I can learn more and more characters that are common in daily life.

As for listening, I usually download (下载)a lot of listening materials and listen to them on the way to school, work and even dates with my friends. ④I also practice listening by watching Chinese TV shows and films, in this way, l am able to learn how to express myself like a Chinese.

⑤尽可能多地说中文也很重要。I practice talking about different topics in Chinese when I am cycling around, effectively talking to myself or in my head, thinking through different conversations and scenarios(扬).For example, if I go to a shop, l will think how to say that in Chinese. It helps me to think in a Chinese way, which is really important.

Learning a language is never easy. Basically, l just use every tool on hand and take my learning step by step, and I'm still learning new things to this day!

A group of students meet in the library each week during lunchtime.  They are famous as the members of the Miss Margaret Fan Club.  Every Thursday, the twelve members of the Miss Margaret Fan Club make their way to the study centre in the back of the library. 

The first Thursday they met.  Miss Margaret greeted them with a little talk. 

"Welcome to the first meeting of the Writing Club!" she said.  "During the school year, we will meet here to work on story writing.  At the end of the year, I will put all of your stories together in a book. "

Miss Margaret gave a pencil and two pieces of paper to each student. 

"Your first homework is to think of a character.  Now, try to think about an interesting person.  When you think of this person, write down all the details (细节) about him or her in your head. "
