2016年云南省昆明市中考英语真题试卷

根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

Alice spends her summer vacations walking back into history. Alice is 15 and she is a guide who shows visitors around the Fort(城堡)Delaware Museum in New York. “This year, I spun wool(纺毛线)on a spinning wheel. Last year, I was a candle maker. My first year, I cared for the garden and looked after the animals. All the jobs I've had at the fort have been really fun.”

Fort Delaware is a living-history museum that shows how life was in frontier(边远地区)America in the mid-1700s. “Reading about history can't compare to experiencing it for yourself,” says Alice.

The experience begins as soon as visitors enter the fort. The smell of wood smoke fills the air. Women in petticoats (long skirts) and men in knee breeches(knee-length shorts) are busy with their chores. The guides show visitors how the settles(移民)would have carried out everyday work. “Kids are surprised when I tell them that one of their jobs would have been to make candles,” says another guide, 16-year-old Jane. “They don't realize that kids back then had to work hard.” She also shows visitors how to play with toys and games.

They are playing historical parts, so the guides can't wear shorts or T-shirts when the weather is hot. But the clothes of the past can easily change modern kids into people from 18th century. “The clothing felt strange at first, but it does make it easier to get into characters,” says Jane.

Working at the fort has helped Jane to appreciate her life even more. Alice agrees, “The fort has taught me how hard life was and how much work there was every day. We are so lucky with everything we have now. Life wasn't always this easy.”

"Have you checked the oil in the car?" My father used to say to me. "Hello, hope you are well." Sometimes our phone calls would begin with a question about the oil and end with a question about the oil, with not a lot in between.

Fathers have a lot of love to give, but it's often supplied through the medium (方法) of practical advice. In my experience: It's mostly about my car.

"How's the car running?" "Did you get it serviced?" "How did you get that scrape (刮痕) on the side?"

Why can't fathers just say "I love you" or "It's great to see you"? The point is: That's exactly what we are saying. You just have to translate from the language that is Fatherlish.

The words "You made my life better from the moment you were born" may be hardly heard, but the key is there in the more common "I'll hold the ladder while you get the leaves out of the gutter (排水沟)."

When I was 17, I went on my first road trip—a friend and I in that old car. My father stood on the corner early on a cold morning to say goodbye to us.

"Highways are dangerous," he said, "so don't try to catch up with anything faster than a horse. And take a break every two hours. And every time you stop for gas, you really should check the oil."

At the time we thought his speech was pretty funny and would chant "car and horse, car and horse" every time I drove faster and passed other speeding cars.

Dad's long gone now. But after all these years, I realize that had I owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I'd have understood that the speech my friend and I so casually mocked (嘲笑) was simply Dad's attempt at affection.

Since September,many schools have more PE classes from three time a week to five or even more. This is in response to (响应) China's new standard(标准) on PE classes. The standard asks schools to make sure that 10 to 11 percent of all class time must be PE classes.

The standard not only(不但) asks students to do easy exercise, but also(而且) asks schools to give students other popular sports to do.

Ma Jiajun, 15, from Jilin, set a new world record(纪录) for "the most consecutive jump triples(连续三摇跳绳)" with 701 times. His teacher Chen Peng said that the school has always kept an eye on PE. With Ma as a role model now, students are more hardworking on not only jump rope(跳绳) but also other kinds of sports.

"At first tai chi(太极)was only needed during break time to show Chinese traditional culture, but students fell in love with it, " said Guo Yunxiang from a middle school of Shan Dong. Grade 8 students all need to do it, and there is a tai chi competition every year for Grade 8 students. "Different from ball games, tai chi can make me relaxed and help me get ready for the next class. " said Guo.

"I really enjoy hip-hop dance, " Ren Jianning, a high school student, said, "The class doesn't need any experiences, so anyone can learn it. "Every class they practice a part of the dance and in the next class put the parts together in to a whole dance. "Our shirts are all wet after class even on the coldest days of winter. " said Ren.

Every summer, many birds migrate(迁徙) from North Africa to Europe and Asia.In winter, they return to Africa.As they travel from one place to another, they use the sun, stars, smells and landforms(地形) to find the way.

The migration is long and difficult, and some of the animals die during each trip.However, it is not this twice-a-year journey that poses the greatest risk to these animals.The main danger to the birds comes from hunters all over the Mediterranean(地中海地区).Millions of migratory birds are killed every year.As a result, the bird population is falling.

In countries along the Mediterranean, many migratory birds are illegally(非法地) trapped or killed.Besides traps, hunters also use electronic calls to catch birds.They make bird sounds to attract the real birds.Some hunters also use nets to catch birds as they fly close to the sea."There are no birds," said one local man."We walk for hours without seeing any.It's really scary."

Birds are in danger, and many countries are working to solve this problem.In the European Union, hunting migratory birds is illegal in some countries, while in others, it is strictly controlled—the birds can only be hunted at a certain time of year.What's more, many nature-protection groups are making sure that laws are obeyed.

Wildlife organizations around the Mediterranean are helping to bring about change."Hunting bans(禁令) are working," said Martin Schneider-Jacoby, a bird scientist."But there is still more to do.We hope to stop hunting and protect birds' living areas all over the Mediterranean.If this can be done, the number of birds will increase.There's a long way to go, but there is hope."
