School education is very important and useful. Yet no one can learn everything at school, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} teacher can't teach his students everything they want to know. His work is{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (show) his students how to learn. He teaches them {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to read and think. So much more is to be learned outside school by the students.

It is always much {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (important) to know how to study by oneself. It is quite{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (easily) to learn something, but it is difficult to use it to solve problems. Great {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (invent) do not get everything from school, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  they still invent many things and change the world a lot.

How can the inventors do all of this? One of the answers is that they know how to study. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}  fact, a lot of things are not learnt in the classroom. They get a lot of knowledge by {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (read) outside school. They work hard and never give up all {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (they)lives.

Lockheed Martin, an American space system company(空间系统公司) in Maryland, has found a really cool way to inspire the young kids of today to the research fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

It may look like a common yellow bus, but all the magic happens once you get inside. "Mars Experience Bus" is part of Lockheed Martin's new "Generation Beyond" national education programme. It gives kids a chance to join in and study what goes on outside of our home planet. The bus offers a virtual reality(VR, 虚拟现实)experience making the teenagers feel like they are driving on Mars.

The VR experience was developed by using software(软件) created for today's best video games, so you can imagine the picture shown is top level. The kids do seem really excited to see the bus take a virtual trip on the red planet and search unknown places. It's certainly a great way of learning about the universe(宇宙) by virtual reality working on a common bus.

The Lockheed Martin's bus will start a tour in the United States to allow kids from different parts of the country to take a ride in it. The "Generation Beyond" project also includes an app on the phone for providing real-time information about weather reports for Mars, and there's also a free deep space class for middle school teachers and students.

Artificial intelligence (人工智能) , or AI for short, has become an important part of our daily life. It is certain that Al will have a great effect on education in the next few years. Let's see how! 

The role of teachers

What will the role of teachers be in this robotic classroom of the future? Many teachers worry that Al will take their jobs. Actually, human teachers will always be needed to manage the classroom environment and encourage students. A large part of education for children is teaching them social-emotional skills. While Al programs have proven they can teach students to read and solve math problems, teaching social-emotional skills is more complex (复杂的) . That kind of learning needs the human touch that only teachers can provide. 

Classrooms

Certain tasks can be made easier through the use of AL. Grading, for example, can be done quickly and easily by using AI. In the future, some believe Al will even be able to tell if students are having problems with a certain subject based on their facial (面部的) expressions alone. AI can also provide a chance of receiving an education for those who have hearing problems or are unable to speak the local language. 

AI outside the classroom

AI in education is extending (延伸) outside the classroom, too. The technology is also being used to help students prepare for tests, such as college entrance exams. It can also help them with their homework.

What does a lifelong learner look like?

Lifelong learners never think of themselves as the greatest experts(专家)in anything. They continue to learn and bring a great deal to the groups they belong to. What does a lifelong learner look like? Here are some of their main characteristics(特征).

They are knowledge seekers. They are always searching for much information on a topic they're interested in and looking for new experience or opportunities to improve their knowledge or skills.

They are social and self-directed learners. They like taking different courses and taking part in discussions around subjects they are interested in. ____ They also know their own learning styles, and their strengths and weaknesses. They can plan and organize their own learning.

They are critical(批判性的)thinkers. They always use a lot of ways to analyze(分析)and synthesize(合成)information. From their research they judge the information to see if it is useful for the question at hand.

They are problem solvers. They will meet different problems while learning. However, they usually see problems as challenges and life experiences and try to stand above them.

A student asked his teacher, "Sir, I have a question. How many friends should a man have, one or many?"

"It is very easy, " the teacher answered. "Get me that red apple from the highest(最高的) branch(树枝) of the tree. " The student looked up and said, "It's too high! I can't get it."

"Ask a friend to help. " the teacher said.

 The student called a friend and stood on his shoulders(肩膀) for the branch. "I still can't get it, Sir, " said the student sadly after the first try.

"Don't you have more friends? " the teacher smiled. The student asked more friends to come over. They stood on each other's shoulders, trying to make a pyramid(金字塔) to get higher. But the student still couldn't get the apple. Then one of the friends went home, brought a ladder(梯子) and the student finally got the apple.

 After getting the apple, the teacher asked, "So, do you know how many friends a man needs?"

"I do," the student said. "Many, so together we can work out any problem."

"Sounds good, " the teacher said. "You need as many friends as you can. Among( 在······之中) them, there will be at least(至少) one clever man. He can think of a good idea, like getting a ladder!"
