How much do you know about Wushu? Wushu, also known as martial arts, is one of the earliest {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(sport) in China. It uses both body and brain. What's more, Wushu is an outstanding example of{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(tradition) Chinese culture. It can explain {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Chinese people understand the world. So far, Wushu {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(develop) into а special unity of exercise, self-protection and art.

As а sport and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} artistic form, Wushu wins great popularity in China. In Shenzhen, some schools have Wushu classes for kids. Every training {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (require) students to take it seriously, Only by training hard can they build up {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(they) bodies and meet the challenges in the future.

As a competitive sport with great fitness value, Wushu has spread {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (wide) across the world. Bruce Lee helped make Wushu world-famous. Thanks to him, the word "kung fu" appeared in many foreign language dictionaries. Many Chinese have set up Wushu schools outside China, providing people{#blank#}9{#/blank#} the chance to experience the fantastic sport. During the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, more people were able {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(enjoy) the beauty of Wushu.

Umbrellas could be one of the world's most important inventions. The first umbrella was invented over four thousand years ago. 

Umbrellas were used on sunny days at first. Chinese people were the first to use their umbrellas on rainy days. They waxed (给……打蜡) their paper umbrellas so that they could be used when it was raining. 

The word "umbrella" comes from the Latin word, umbra. It means shade (背阴). Starting in the 16th century, the umbrella became popular in the Western world, especially in northern Europe, where it often rains. At first, people thought that the umbrella was only suitable for women. 

Then a famous English traveler, Jonas Hanway (1712-1786), carried and used an umbrella in England for thirty years. Because of him, men began to use umbrellas. 

In Europe, early umbrellas were made of wood and covered with canvas (帆布). 

People used very hard wood to make umbrella handles. In 1852, Samuel Fox invented a new kind of umbrella with ribs (伞骨) made of steel. 

Samuel also started a company called English Steels Company. After that, compact collapsible (可叠) umbrellas were the next important step in umbrella production. 

In many places on Earth the weather changes during the year. These changes are called seasons. 

Spring Spring starts when the day and night are of the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring. 

Summer Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 June. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows on trees and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger. 

Autumn Autumn starts when the day and night are of the same length again. During autumn, the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before winter comes. 

Winter Winter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 December. The weather is co lder and in some places there is lots of snow. Plants and trees stop growing. Some animals, like snakes and bears, find places to hide and sleep. This is called hibernation.

●At the North and South Pole there are only two seasons. 

●In tropical (热带的) places near the Earth's equator (赤道) there are two seasons: a"wet" season and a"dry" season. 

 It's said that about 4% of people sleepwalk(梦游) at night during their lives. That is, you or some of your families and friends have done so. Sleepwalking happens while one is sleeping. Sleepwalkers walk slowly around the house, say something and then go back to sleep. Their eyes are usually open and look right at you as if they were awake. The next day, they remember nothing when they are asked about what happened the night before.

 Sleepwalking is a common problem for many children from 4 to 12 years old. It could run in family. If one of the parents is a sleepwalker, their children may be, too. Scientists still don't know why people sleepwalk, but they find common facts that may lead to sleepwalking. For example, if one is under stress, gets sick or doesn't have enough sleep, he or she will have more chances to sleepwalk. Sleepwalking itself isn't bad, but it may make sleepwalkers get hurt because they are in fact"sleeping" and don't know what they are doing. It is important to keep sleepwalkers from falling down, running into something and even walking out to drive.

 What can we do for sleepwalkers? First, try not to wake up a sleepwalker because it may make him or her scared. All you have to do is to show the sleepwalker the way back to bed. Second, close the windows and doors to stop sleepwalkers from going out. Third, keep any things that may hurt the sleepwalkers away. Remember, if you find someone sleepwalking, the most important thing is to make sure he or she is safe.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(在······期间) the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), Yangzhou was a center for business and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(文化). Many artists lived there. Among these artists was a special group of eight painters. They were all from poor families but they were truly {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(有才能的). They had their {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(自己的) styles(风格) and their paintings were mirrors of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(普通的) lives. Their paintings touched many people's{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (内心). They became quite famous and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(百) of rich traders went to buy their paintings. So the other painters disliked them and called them"Yangzhou baguai". Some {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(甚至) called them"Choubaguai". Although it wasn't a nice name, people {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(相信) their paintings were great.

 Today, "Yangzhou baguai" is still used to refer to the eight painters, but"Choubaguai" new {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(失去) its original meaning and just refers to ugly people in general.
