A 25-year-old American with a university degree can expect to live a decade longer than a contemporary who dropped out of high school. researchers have long known that the rich live longer than the poor, yet this education gap is less well documented. And while the average American's (expect) life span ( 寿 命 ) has been flat in recent years, that of the one-third with a bachelor's degree (continue) to lengthen.

What is the link between schooling and longevity? Some argue that better-educated people develop (healthy) lifestyles: each additional year of study reduces the chances of being a smoker and of being overweight. The better educated earn more, which in turn (associate) with greater health. Ms. Case and Mr. Deaton of Princeton University argue that changes in labour markets, including rise of automation and increased demand for (high) educated workers, coupled with the rising costs of employer-provided health care, have depressed the supply of well paid jobs those without a degree. This may be contributing to higher rates of alcohol and drug use and other (death) of despair. In order for America's overall life span (start) climbing again, improvements will be needed across all social groups, not just among the privileged few.

The music industry is never short of teen pop stars with wonderful looks, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it doesn't often find one like US singer Taylor Swift. "Beneath Taylor Swift's not-a-girl, not-yet-a-woman sweetness hides a very {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(skill)songwriting technique (技巧)," writes Leah Greenblatt with Entertainment Weekly.

Songwriting, the country singer explains, is "how I deal with problems. I am used to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(write) about things that really influences me most." So in her songs, there is always {#blank#}4{#/blank#} true and honest. They seem like stories from {#blank#}5{#/blank#} diary and that certainly helps Swift attract her audience.

She {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(sell) more than 13 million copies worldwide of her first two albums, 2006's self-titled debut (首张专辑) and 2008's Fearless. She's the youngest artist ever to {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(name) Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. Not surprisingly, there were great expectations for her third album, Speak Now, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} came out late last month, where she again returned {#blank#}9{#/blank#} her own life for material. "The 14 songs are all about the last two years... when life was a little bit bigger and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(crazy)," says Swift. "So I've written about the lessons and confusion and heartbreak and all the different things that go along with being 18, 19 and 20."

How Steven Spielberg Stays Inspired

Ask a young person who the greatest American film director is, and you may get the answer Steven Spielberg, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} has certainly made more successful films than any other director in the West.

Spielberg was born in America in 1946. What he impressed others most was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he had unusual abilities when he was very young: completing his first 15-minute home movie at 13. He earned $100 at the age of 16, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} he made a 135-minute home movie called Firelight and it was shown at a local cinema.

A Hollywood film studio employed Spielberg to make a full-length film Sugarland Express on discovering his talent for movie-making. His next film was Jaws, a film about a shark that ate people. This was one of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (successful) films of all times. He received the Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes (金球奖) in 2009.

Despite all his outstanding achievements in his field, some of his films have been less successful in the last fifteen years. But people can never deny the fact {#blank#}5{#/blank#} he, more than anyone else in the history of films, understands the meaning of the word "entertainment".

Now, Spielberg's role as a father of seven has taught him a great deal about {#blank#}6{#/blank#} makes a good story—at bedtime and otherwise. When his kids were growing up, he'd tell them stories every night {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he could stay active in film-making.

"In the past few years, I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (inspire) by everybody who makes a good movie," Spielberg said." "I can't risk {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (lose) my followers' passion for film." Also, he owes (归因) his success to his attempt {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (keep) working and so he looks to his contemporaries (同时代的人) for that kind of ... current inspiration.
