A simple honk（汽车喇叭声） from the bus is one part of a secret code（代码） between the driver and students living in a far—away village in Wanzhou district，Chongqing.

Seeing a schoolbag hanging from the doorknob of an old house along the road，the bus driver drives toward the roadside and makes a honk to answer the "code".Then a boy runs outside，takes the schoolbag，and gets on the bus.

The boy's parents work far from home，leaving him in the care of his grandmother.The boy is in the ninth grade this year.He comes home every Friday and goes back to school in the city every Sunday.To make the journey easier，he and the driver，Cheng Lin，have developed a special "code".When the boy's schoolbag is hanging outside the house，it"tells" Mr Cheng，"Today，it's time to go back to school.I need to catch the bus."

The parents of the boy are deeply touched when they know this.They show their heartfelt thanks to Mr Cheng and feel happy that there is someone taking care of their son while they are away.

Mr Cheng has been driving the Luotian to Wuqiao Nan Station bus for many years.There are many left—behind children on this bus line.Realizing the importance of his role in their lives，he has paid more attention on Fridays and Sundays.

The driver's kindness to the boy touches the hearts of many people.One wrote online，"He is a good driver.The schoolbag is their code，packed with love inside."

"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." This is an old English saying. It means that we should go to bed early at night and get up early in the morning. If we do, we will be healthy. We will also be rich and clever. 

Is this true? Perhaps it is. The body must have enough sleep. Children of your age need eight hours' sleep every night. If you go to bed late, you can't have enough sleep. Then you can't think carefully and your homework will be wrong. You will not be wise and you may not become wealthy!

Some people go to bed late at night and get up late in the morning. This is not good for them. We should sleep at night when it is dark. The dark helps us sleep well. When the daylight comes, we should get up. This is the time for exercise. If the body is not used, it will become weak. Exercise keeps it strong. 

Exercise helps the blood (血液) to move around inside the body. Blood takes nutrition (营养) to all parts of our bodies. The brains (大脑) in our heads also need blood. We think with our brains. If we keep our bodies healthy, and take exercise, we can think better!

Our bodies also need air to breathe. Without air we will die. Get up early in the morning and we can have plenty of clean, fresh air. That will keep us healthy and happy.

Last Sunday evening, my parents went out for a walk with my sister. But I studied alone at home because I would have an English test. Suddenly, I saw bright light in my neighbour's kitchen. I thought he was cooking, so I went on studying. 

Soon, there was a terrible smell in the air and I thought something was wrong. I went out and saw fire coming out of my neighbour's kitchen. So I shouted, "Fire! Fire!"But no one heard or came out. 

I ran quickly to my house to call 119, and then I rang my neighbour's doorbell, knocked at the door, but there was no response. I got into the house through the window and found my neighbour sleeping in his bedroom. I woke him up and we rushed(冲) out of the house quickly. 

We tried our best to pour water through the kitchen window, but the fire was too heavy. Luckily, the firemen came and put out the fire quickly. When my parents came back, they found I was dirty and tired. After my neighbour told them the whole(整个的) story, they were happy and said I was a brave boy. 

 My phone rang. It was a text from an unfamiliar number, showing a photo of a smiling man in his 30s. "What a strange picture to receive!" I thought to myself. 

 For the past three years, I have been getting texts meant for this man, Jared. When the second text came, I was a playful sixth grader. 

"My Mom just told me that the Football Club will host a free barbeque dinner on Saturday! Hope you all will enjoy it, " it said. 

"YUMMMY!" I carefully responded. 

 The story of Jared became deeper. I learned that he was part of the" Bowery Mission, " which sounded like a gaming group. Looking it up, I realized it was an organization that helped poor families. This was around the same time I stopped volunteering in my community. I spent more time taking art classes and trying different sports. I then joined the group texts. When a message came about donating food, I texted back, "Count me in!"

 However, I started to feel bad about this lie. A man sent a long message, talking about the hopeless moments in his life. As I imagined what a good friend Jared could be, I felt ashamed that I was unable to provide the support this man needed and realized that I was not even a good listener to my own friends. 

 Throughout this time, I noticed how much Jared's life has changed and I have also been discovering who I am. Learning from Jared, I have grown out of the naughty self, made more efforts tor my community, and become a more understanding friend. Last month, I received another text. Yet, I replied:" Hey, sorry, this is-not Jared, but I hope he is doing well. "

①In most places in the world today, it is easy to find healthy food With supermarkets, buying healthy food like fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat is easy and convenient(便利的). However, it is also easy to find unhealthy food today. Supermarkets and other stores sell good food, but they also sell frozen foods and junk food like chips, candy, and cookies. A lot of food today has chemicals(化学药品). Research has shown that many of these chemicals are bad for our health. So did people in the past eat healthier than we do today?

②A century ago, people didn't eat junk food or frozen food. Instead, they ate natural foods without chemicals. On the other hand, their natural foods were not always as good as food today. In the past, meat often came from sick animals. It's not healthy to eat meat from a sick animal. In most places today, laws make sure that food is safe.

④We also eat much more meat, sugar, fattening foods, and chemicals today than people did a century ago. Studies show that these things can cause heart disease and a variety of other health problems. However, people live much longer now. Today, the average(平均) person lives for 70 to 80 years. However,100 years ago, the average person lived for only about 50 years. People live longer because we have better medicine now. But people also have longer lives because healthy food is usually available.

⑤So ____ ? Yes and no. People in the past did eat more natural food than we do now. But, in some ways, we also eat better today. We can eat healthier today than people did in the past. We just have to choose to eat good foods.

Tommy loved ice cream. It was his favorite dessert. His parents let him have a small dish each night after dinner, if he ate all of his vegetables. Tommy loved eating ice cream at home. He always tried a new kind of ice cream each time. When he turned eight, he had a checkup at the doctor's office. Dr. Katz said, "It's fine to have a little ice cream once in a while, but not every night."

That night at supper, Tommy ate all his vegetables. But there was no ice cream for dessert. Instead, Mom came up with a new rule.

"If we want to eat ice cream, we'll have to earn it by walking to the ice cream stand," she said. Tommy would like to give it a try, so they decided to take their walk on Saturday afternoon. According to the map, the ice cream stand was a mile away.

Saturday was a sunny day. The sun was so bright that he had to almost close his eyes. Tommy asked, "How much farther is it?" Mom checked the map on her phone and then said, "We're not even halfway yet. Do you want to turn around?" Tommy did want to turn around, but he also wanted ice cream. Walking was the only way to get it.

The sun beat down so strongly that even Mom was sweating （流汗）. Tommy's legs felt heavy. He wanted to sit down, but there were no chairs. He wanted to give up. He looked up to tell Mom he was ready to turn around. But when he did, he could see the purple flag at the top of the ice cream stand. They were almost there! Tommy started to walk faster. He could almost taste the cool, creamy ice cream already. It was a long walk, but it was certainly worth the effort.
