完形填空

Last summer vacation, I decided to visit Wolong in Sichuan Province. Before I started, my mom reminded me to take care of myself again and again. Because it was my first time to travel alone, I felt really 1 at first.

Wolong is a large nature reserve (自然保护区), which includes several panda bases for breeding (繁殖) and research. I stayed at a small hotel next to Wolong Panda Center 2 I arrived. I was going to visit the center the next morning.

Everything went 3 at first the next day. I saw many 4 playing in the trees. They looked so cute. I was not nervous anymore. I also tried to feed them with some bamboo. They were happy and even wanted to 5 me. Later, I left the center happily.

But while I was going back to the hotel, I lost my 6. I was so worried that I nearly cried. At that moment, a7 came up to me and asked if I needed any8. Then he showed me the way and I arrived at the hotel9 in the end.

The trip to Wolong not only allowed me to learn about pandas in a more satisfying way, but also to meet friendly people. This10 gives me the courage to travel alone again in the future

Elephants are big, but Teensy was the smallest of them. Teensy tried everything she could think of to help herself grow. She ate a lot. However, nothing seemed to 1 .

One day Teensy went with the elephants to have lunch. They stopped in front of some trees and found their favourite green leaves. Teensy raised her nose and tried again and again, but she couldn't reach the branches. Not even the 2 ones!

At the end of the day, Teensy was with the rest of the elephants watching the 3 . But Teensy couldn't see very much. "Excuse me," said Teensy politely, "I'd like to see more than your knees, if you please." But the elephants didn't hear little Teensy. They were too 4 enjoying the sunset. She knew she was too little to walk away by herself, so she sat and imagined what the sunset must look like. "Oh, I guess it is too pretty for words!" she sighed. Teensy was very sad. "Oh, woe is me," she said. Suddenly, Teensy heard a tiny voice. "What is woe?" the voice said. Teensy looked down and saw a mouse. "Woe means sad," said Teensy. She told the mouse about seeing only elephant5 instead of the sunset.

"I'm too little," she said.

"Why? You're not little at all," said the mouse.

"Do you think so?" replied Teensy, "I'm sorry you're so small. I know how it feels." "Don't be sorry," said the mouse. "I like being small! I can always fit into corners."

"Wow," said Teensy, "so being 6 CAN be good."

Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days,a brush was made from camels'(骆驼) hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some hair from the family cat to make a brush.

The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more hair. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin had to tell his father what he had been doing.

The cat's lot was about to improve. That year,one of Benjamin's cousins,Mr.Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed (印象深刻) with Benjamin's drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes as well as six paintings by an artist, which were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes that Benjamin had ever seen

In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his talent. He asked Benjamin's parents if he might take the boy back to Philadelphia for a visit.

In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two books on painting to take home. The books were long and boring. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said that those two books stayed with him by day, and under his head at night. While it was likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.
