Have you ever heard of the "space race (太空竞赛)"? It sounds like a game, but it was not. The "space race" was a kind of competition between the United States and the Soviet Union（前苏联）. Both countries wanted to be the first to send people into space. 

Both the Soviet Union and the United States sent rockets (火箭) into space in the 1950s, but not people. Then in 1961, a man called Yury Gagarin from the Soviet Union became the first man to travel in space. 

People in the United States were upset. They'd hoped an American would be first in space. Soon President John F. Kennedy told the world that Americans would be the first to land on the moon. He said they would get there by 1970. 

Landing on the moon was hardly possible at the time. But that "impossible dream" came true. 

On 16th July 1969, a huge white rocket left the United States. It was carrying a spaceship called Apollo 11. In it were three US astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. 

Apollo 11 travelled quickly through space. On 20th July, it was near the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin moved slowly into the Eagle. That was their landing craft (登月舱). It would leave the command ship (指令舱) and land on the moon. 

Collins stayed in the command ship. Armstrong and Aldrin watched the moon getting closer and closer. Finally, the Eagle landed. Armstrong used his radio to tell people on the earth, "The Eagle has landed. " He and Aldrin stepped out into (步入) a strange new world. They were walking on the moon!

Here are some tips on becoming a writer.

Most writers read whatever books they can find because they love to lose themselves in them. They like the sounds of language and the way that reading a good description can feel as satisfying as a baseball game or eating a banana split.

It's easy to forget a good idea if you do not write it down immediately. If you get in the habit of carrying a notebook with you everywhere you go, you can write down anything you want to remember. When you are talking to friends in the cafe or waiting for the bus, something might spark an idea for a character or scene in a story.

Nearly all writers agree that writers must write. It doesn't matter if you feel like you have nothing to say; the important thing is that you write every single day. Sometimes, you need to give yourself permission to write things which won't be your best work.

Do you have any friends who enjoy writing? Think about starting a writing group with other people who have similar interests. It helps to have the support of other writers. You will also receive valuable feedback, or suggestions, about how to make you work better.

If you decide that you would like to send your work for publication, make sure to do your research. If you are sending your writing to a magazine, look through old ones. Does it seem like your writing fits in with the other stories or articles? That's the homework for you after writing.

①There's nothing quite like falling sound asleep after a full day or work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard. Some animals sleep in water. Others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under leaves. But they all find a way to rest.

②Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble(气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.

③Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks(花栗鼠) sleep curled up in a ball. Their beds are made of grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs di g underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.

④There are some animals who sleep in the air. Some seabirds can sleep while they fly. These large birds spend most of their lives over the ocean. They are in danger on the water, but they are safe in the air. They glide for many hours without flapping(拍打) their wings.

⑤High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.

Today we have a lecture(讲座) given by an expert in our school gathering hall. The subject of the lecture is to give students more knowledge about safety and make {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(确信) to keep them safe. 

What can you do to keep {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(你自己) safe? Staying calm is the first and the most{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(重要) rule when facing accidents. 

When a fire {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(突然) breaks out at school, what should you do? Follow the teachers' instructions. Leave the classroom {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(迅速) and use a piece of cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke. 

A stampede(蜂拥) is possible {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(在任何地方). The larger a human crowd gets, the more likely a stampede becomes. When students around you begin to push, stand {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(静止) and try to hold onto something. Or stay in a corner until the crowd go {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(离开). If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands. 

Playing sports has a lot of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(乐趣), but don't get hurt. Before playing sports, the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(合适) way is to warm up for 15 to 30 minutes. 

Have you ever heard that some animals do not need any sleep? Butterflies and fish are {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（例子）. We usually see them not move, but this doesn't mean that they are sleeping. Their body temperatures {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（变得）low, and as a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（结果）, they can't move. Is it surprising? 

Do you think that we can live without any sleep? One woman in England{#blank#}4{#/blank#} （打破）the world record（记录）by not sleeping for eighteen days and seventeen hours. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(然而）, people may {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（死亡）if they don't sleep for more than five days. If we don't get {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（足够的）sleep, we will feel tired and even be sick. You can find that sleep plays an important{#blank#}8{#/blank#} （作用）in our health. So, children, please be clever and go to bed much {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（早）from now on. 

Let's look at the following ways to help us get good sleep. 

Firstly, exercise. Running, riding bikes or swimming will get you tired. After that, you will sleep better and faster. Secondly, keep your room only for sleeping. Don't eat, watch TV programs, use your computer and so on. When these things {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（发生） to you, you may get a nice sleep.
