There is nothing like chocolate. Just thinking about it can make your mouth water. September 13 is the International Chocolate Day, which gives us a good reason to celebrate the world's most popular sweet. 

Chocolate comes from a civilization（文明）called the Maya. They had a special food called cocoa. The word cocoa means" gift from God". About five hundred years ago, the Europeans found the Mayans and used cocoa to make chocolate. 

For centuries, only the rich could enjoy chocolate, and normal people could not get hold of it. All this changed when European companies started to produce chocolate bars in the 19th century. Chocolate comes in different colors and sizes. People often eat white, dark and milk chocolate. The biggest chocolate bar was ever made in Italy in 2011 and weighed almost 6 tons! That's as big as an elephant. 

There are also different shapes of chocolate and people often take them as holiday gifts. Chocolate bunnies（小兔子）and eggs are popular on Easter, chocolate coins are common on Christmas Day, and chocolate hearts are great gifts for Valentine's Day. At certain parties and wedding ceremonies(结婚典礼), chocolate fountains always surprise guests. 

Lots of people say chocolate is bad for your health. Not necessarily so! Scientists now say it is good for people's heart and can make the body release chemicals that actually make us happy and make us feel better. But don't eat too much of it. 

Asha looked out of the window on the plane. What a1 ! The buildings were so tall. The city was large, much larger than her small town. 

Asha was on vacation in New York City. She was very2 as she had always wanted to come since she was young. She read stories about it and studied its3 . She knew how the island of Manhattan was bought from native Americans 300 years ago. She4 knew people from all over the world came to live here. These people, like Asha,5 a new life in New York.But Asha was only staying for fourteen6 . She thought of these two weeks as a time to7 herself to move back to New York. She would return to her small8 , stay for one year, and then come to live in New York forever. So she had to plan this vacation9 .

In New York Asha wanted to do10 things. First, she wanted to look for a job. Next, she would find a place to live. She knew it was expensive to live in New York and that finding a good place to live was11 . And the third thing she wanted to do was to12 her English. She had studied English for 12 years but didn't know13 she could understand "real" English.

Before leaving, her friends told her that New York was a14 place.But Asha wasn't worried. She had studied New York carefully. She believed she would be safe.

15 Asha saw the Statue of Liberty! The plane flew around it, and then began to slow down. Soon Asha was on the ground, getting ready to leave the plane to meet her future.

Grade 7 students from Guangming Middle School had a class outside the classroom. They had a 1 farming class in the fields(田地). Everybody loved it!

Farmers introduced wheat ( 小 麦 ) to the students and answered 2 questions. The farmers also 3 them around the fields. They le arnt that 4 usually harvest(收获) wheat in September.

"I 5 some notes in my notebook." said Daming. He learnt that eating wheat can be good for people.

Other students also learnt something new."I know about wheat only from 6 . This time, I see real one and learn how it 7 ." said Dongdong.

 Before this, Lingling thought that farming was something old.8 this trip changed(改变) her ideas."I see really cool farming machines(机器), and they show me how farming changes and gets 9 ." said Lingling." Farming changes10 . I'm so excited to see it in this lesson!"

Everyone was happy on Saturday morning, but not Tom. He sat in front of a high fence(围栏). "Too bad! It's a nice Saturday morning but I must paint the fence. My friends are playing, but I'm sitting here. " He got up slowly and started to paint. Then he had a great idea. 

His friend Ben was walking down the street and he was eating a big red apple. He saw Tom and said, "Tom, I'm going swimming, but you can't come with me. You're working. "

Tom said, "I like it! I can go swimming every day, but I can't paint a fence every day. "

Ben was surprised and he watched Tom. He painted slowly and carefully, and he often smiled. He looked happy. At this time, Ben wanted to paint too. 

"Listen, Tom, let me paint a little, " said Ben. "I want to try. "

 Tom looked at Ben and said, "I'm really sorry, Ben, but Aunt Polly wants me to do it. You know, I'm very good at painting. My brother Sid wants to do it, but he's not good at painting. "

Tom's friends painted the big fence, and Tom just sat under the big tree and watched them. He thought, "When something is difficult to get, everyone wants it. "

One summer evening, Sylvie hurried the cow through the forest, following a path to her grandmother's home.

Suddenly she heard a loud whistle(哨子声).

"Hello," a young man carrying a gun called out cheerfully, "I've been hunting for birds." he explained,"but I've lost my way." Sylvie led the stranger through the forest.When they reached her house, the stranger explained his problem to Sylvie's grandmother and was invited to stay there for the night.

After dinner, the young man said he was a scientist, who collected birds."Do you put them in a cage?" Sylvie asked."No," he answered,"I shoot birds and put something special into them to preserve them.I have over 100 different kinds of birds at home.Their feathers(羽毛) look as bright as before."

"Sylvie knows a lot about birds too," her grandmother said proudly.

"Maybe she can help me," the young man said."I saw a white heron(鹭) not far from here two days ago.I've been looking for it ever since.It's a tall, strange bird with white wings.Have you seen it?" he asked Sylvie.Sylvie didn't answer.Her heart began to beat fast.She had seen that bird! The young man added."I would give $10 to the person who showed me where the bird is."

That night Sylvie thought about the wonderful things she and her grandmother could buy with ten dollars.She also wanted to be the young man's friend, because she had never seen anyone so handsome.

When the sun began to rise, Sylvie quietly left her house and hurried to a huge tree.She wanted to climb to the top of the tree where she could see the whole forest.

Sylvie's face was pale when, at last, she reached the top.Suddenly, a bird with big white wings flew past her and landed on a branch below her.The other white heron was sitting on the ne st in a nearby tree.Now Sylvie knew the bird's secret! An hour later, Sylvie returned to the house.The young man would give them the money they needed.Besides, Sylvie wanted to make him happy.But Sylvie was silent.She remembered how the white heron flew through the air and how they watched the sun rise together from the top of the forest.Sylvie could not speak.Finally, she decided to keep the secret of the white heron.

The young man went away later that day and never returned.
