In the western world, Chinese takeout with rice and fortune cookies(幸运饼干) is a popular kind of food. But this kind of Chinese food isn't very authentic(正宗的), it is very {#blank#}1{#/blank#}[̍dIfrənt] from real Chinese food. Now over the years, real Chinese{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(dish) have become more popular in foreign countries as well.

Chinese people who live {#blank#}3{#/blank#}[ə̍ brɔːd] introduced many of them. Some have been popular in foreign countries for many years, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}others are new, like tanghulu. It is a traditional Chinese snack that's made{#blank#}5{#/blank#}fruit, usually Chinese hawthorns(山楂). The fruit is stuck on a stick of bamboo. Then it is {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(cover) with sugar syrup(糖浆), which becomes hard after it cools down.

Wang Jialiang, a tanghulu vendor(摊贩) from China, sold 8, 000 sticks in Russia {#blank#}7{#/blank#}one day. Tanghulu made him{#blank#}8{#/blank#} [̍ feIməs] in Russia, with his picture{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(appear) in the local newspaper. In the Russian city of Vladivostok, the deputy mayor(副市长) is a big fan of the snack, always coming to buy it {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(he)from Wang Jialiang.

 "The best mianshi lies in China and the best Chinese mianshi lies in Shanxi." Can you imagine that in North China's Shanxi Province, there are over 280 kinds of mianshi, or cooked wheaten (小麦的) food?

Shanxi people's love for mianshi is closely connected to the local natural conditions. The dry weather on mountains and plateaus (高原) makes it a good place for growing wheat. Therefore, as time passing by, Shanxi people not only developed an eating habit for mianshi, but also invented different ways of cooking wheaten food.

Among the many Shanxi manshi, the sliced (刀削的) noodle is the most famous one. It is sliced with a special knife. When making it, the cook needs to hold hand. The length and thickness of each sliced noodle are required to be the same. Experienced cooks can even turn the way of slicing noodle into an excellent show. They can slice 200 noodles in one minute, and make sure each noodle falls exactly into the soup pot 1.5 meters away.

In Chinese food culture, people like to give special meanings to the food. For example, they would have a bowl of Changshoumian on their birthday, carrying good wishes for health and long life. In many places, the tradition is to serve jiaozi to a person leaving home, and noodles to a person returning home, as both food have their own important meaning.

I was doing the work in the garden yesterday. It was a soft evening and I was   making the most of it when I heard a neighbor's voice coming from the path out of our garden. 

I found there was a man lying on his back on the path with his eyes closed. I   recognized him. I had seen him doing the drunkard's(酒鬼) walk along that path several times. 

I stopped to walk out. " Do you need some help?"I asked. 

He opened his eyes and said, " Probably. " Then he told me because of arthritis(关节炎) he couldn't walk well at the most of times. I thought I should do it when he asked to help him go home where he lived a few hundred metres away. 

I tried to let him walk under his own strength with me guiding him but that   was getting us nowhere. It was easier to carry him, but that would be a real insult(侮辱) to him. So, I held his left hand with my left hand and grabbed his belt with my right hand. Then we started walking slowly. 

On the way he told me his name, what he had worked as, what holidays he had been, how wonderful his granddaughter was, what his wife's name was, and what a hard time she would give him when he got home!

Thank goodness! His wife wasn't in when we walked forty- five minutes back to his home. 

If we wait until we feel good about helping before we help, then people will go unhelped and we will become the ones who end up walking on by. 

How to Have a Safe Winter Holiday

Winter holiday is coming soon. How can we keep safe during {#blank#}1{#/blank#} holiday? Here  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) some advice for you. 

Firstly, we'd better {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (not make) friends online, for we {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (not know) them quite well. Secondly,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} we go out, we must follow the traffic rules. While riding a bike, remember {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(not listen) to music, neither talk nor laugh. You may fall {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the bike. What's more, because of the coming of the Spring Festival, it's not a good choice {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(go) to crowded places {#blank#}9{#/blank#} somewhere dangerous.

 It's easy to know if the plate I'm washing is my grandfather's — it will have no food left. My younger brother is the opposite — there's always food left over. The feel of warm water and the dish soap on dinner plates always comfort me a lot at the end of a busy day.

 About a year ago, our family dishwasher broke. My dad had just left for a work trip, so I offered to do the dishes by hand to help my busy mum.

 At first, doing the dishes greatly annoyed me. I was in a rush to get them done because there was endless work waiting for me to do. However, slowly, the task of washing off food leftovers soon led to a transformation in me. So even when we did finally buy a new dishwasher, I still kept washing the dishes by hand after dinner.

I always start with the dinner plates. I have learned to turn them over and wash the bottom. Then I move to any bowls that have been used. After the bowls, I turn to the dishes used to cook.

 Standing in the same place every day, washing the dishes by hand has been more calming and meaningful than I could have ever imagined. For about 15 minutes every day, I can slow down and forget everything in the world as my mind, eyes and hands focus on(专注于) a simple task that would always result in success. Now I'm able to get myself out of all my worries and put myself more wholeheartedly into enjoying the simple task.
