Last night l went to a concert of Chinese folk music. One piece especially moved me. It {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (play) on the erhu. I felt sad and painful. The piece {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (name) Erquan Yingyue was one of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (moving) pieces of music that I've ever heard. The erhu sounded {#blank#}4{#/blank#} sad that I almost cried along with it when I listened. Folk musician Abing {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (write) the music. He was born in Wuxi, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} August 17, 1893. He could play many musical instruments with his father's help. By age 17, he was known for {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (he) musical skills. Today, Abing's Erquan Yingyue is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} great piece. Many greatest erhu masters play {#blank#}9{#/blank#} praise it. It has become one of China's national {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (treasure).

What would life be like if you were a rocker, a soccer player, a professor(教授）at Stanford University, and a Nobel Prize winner? Carolyn Bertozzi from the US lives such a cool life!

Bertozzi, 56, wins this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry and becomes this year's only female(女性) winner in science and the eighth female to receive the chemistry prize in history.

Bertozzi won the prize for studying the sugar coats of cells(细胞）. She has found a smart way to connect cells together. This finding helps to develop better tests for serious diseases like cancer.

However, Bertozzi said she only fell in love with chemistry until her second year at Harvard University."Most of my classmates thought the class was very difficult. But I liked it a lot because in my eyes the problems were challenging even though it usually took me long hours to solve them."

Besides doing science studies, Bertozzi has lived a colorful life. She was a keyboarder in a rock band and she also played soccer, winning an athletic scholarship from Harvard.

Moreover, Bertozzi never forgets her job as a female scientist. "In the late 1980s, only 10 percent of the students were females," she told Chemical & Engineering News. "There were maybe only one or two females in a lab, so we tried to support each other by starting a monthly get-together. Now, I'm so glad to see more and more females taking part in science." In 2022, Bertozzi won an award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science for her work to increase diversity(性别多元）in science.

If you've ever used pi in math class, you probably used the number 3.14. In fact, the number for pi is much longer. Pi is called an irrational number (无理数) because the digits (数位) after the decimal point (小数点) never end or repeat.

On Pi Day ( March 14th) this year, a company called Solidigm said it calculated (计算) pi to105 trillion (万亿) digits. And the 105 trillionth digit is 6. It broke the record for how many digits of pi we know. 

Pi is really useful for circles in math. It helps us connect the circumference with the diameter of a circle. 

Even NASA scientists use pi for their work of studying space. But they only need about 15 digits of pi for their calculations. 

Calculating pi also has another important use. It's how scientists test new computer programs and data storage systems (数据存储系统). 

Solidigm's calculation of pi took around 75 days to finish. The company's owner Brian 

Beeler said that the achievement needed a lot of work. They had to plan the calculation very carefully. 

This isn't the first time that Solidigm has calculated pi. In 2022, Google Cloud calculated 100 trillion digits of pi. Solidigm matched that in 2023. 

In the future, we'll keep finding more and more digits of pi. We'll never be able to calculate all the digits of pi because it goes on forever. But it still helps us see how great computers can be.

Second, we often need to take some useful things with us. They usually include pens, special maps, cameras, smartphones{#blank#}7{#/blank#}so on. Sometimes a pen can help us to reach the right place. We can write down the important words about the place, and then we can show them to the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}who we want to ask for help. Of course, smartphones can also help us a lot. The GPS on{#blank#}9{#/blank#}can help us find the correct way. Before we go to a strange place, we can get some photos about it online. Then we can show the photos about it to the strangers when we ask for directions.
