Taking care of pets can be a great way to teach children responsibility, but it's important to be realistic (现实的). If you're keen on bringing an animal into your home and you've designed a plan for its proper care, here are some choices.

FISH

Firsttime owners should consider getting coldwater fish as no tank (鱼缸) heater is required. They should research what kinds of fish get along in the same tank, and be aware of life expectancy-some goldfish can live up to 20 years.

RABBITS

Though rabbits, or nickname bunnies, may seem like a lovely choice, they can live up to ten years and require an amount of care similar to that of a dog or cat. They have their special diet needs, and often don't behave well around small children. Each year, quite a lot of Easter bunnies become homeless when families feel tired of them.

GUINEAPIGS (豚鼠,荷兰猪)

These small animals are ideal starter pets. Their cages must be cleaned daily, and they require toys to keep their ever growing teeth in check. Once they're used to the new way of life, guinea pigs need daily exercise in a small room without cracks or holes for escape. They don't want to be alone, but if you get two, make sure they're the same sex or they'll have babies.

BIRDS

Fond of a fixed timetable, birds require feeding at the same time each day. Cages should be cleaned daily and disinfected (消毒) weekly. Birds clean themselves by bathing in dishes of water and grow in cages big enough to spread their wings and fly a short time.

(1)、As a beginner to raise fish, what had better you do in a tank?
A、Get some coldwater fish, which get along well. B、Get some warmwater fish, which get along well. C、Get some coldwater fish and some warmwater fish. D、Get only one coldwater fish or warmwater fish.
(2)、According to the passage, which of the following about guinea pigs is TRUE?
A、They like to live in a small room with cracks or holes. B、Owners should clean their cages very often. C、Guinea pigs are the best pets. D、They prefer to live alone.
(3)、Why do a lot of Easter bunnies become homeless?
A、They have their special living condition needs. B、They need a balanced diet. C、They don't get well along with small children. D、They are sick very often .
(4)、What does the underlined word "fixed" mean in Paragraph 5?
A、Regular. B、Repaired. C、Full. D、Mixed.
(5)、Who is the passage mainly written to?

There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food. Taking exercise and getting medical help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are,the longer sleep you need. But regardless of(不管)age,some people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough.

① .  According to the World Health Organization over half the people in the world may be sleep﹣deprived(睡眠不足的). Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100, 000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure.

② . Why are so many people sleep-deprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, people who sleep a lot are usually seen as "lazy". Also, you can sometimes hear some people say proudly that they don't have much time to sleep. They only sleep four or five hours a night. It seems that the less you sleep,the more work you'll do.

③ . How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr. James Maas, an expert in sleep. He says, "Sleep is like a credit (信用卡) card. When you sleep less, you are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The more hours you don't sleep, the more hours you should sleep to 'pay back' the hours on your 'sleep credit card. '"

④ . For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said. " Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish idea which is held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to do more. "
