When I was in school, I volunteered to work in a hospital for some time.

On one visit, I carefully entered a dark room  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(find) an elderly man lying in bed. I firstly thought he was sleeping. When I moved much  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(close), however, I realised he was very much awake. He wanted to communicate something,   {#blank#}3{#/blank#}I couldn't make sense of what he was saying. He seemed quite weak, and I couldn't tell if he  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) in pain or just frightened. I knew nothing  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}him, and I felt totally helpless. He clearly didn't want me to leave him, but I felt so lost and uncomfortable that I had to leave the room after only a couple of  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(minute).

The next time I was at  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}same hospital and saw him again, he immediately said,"I remember you. You gave me hope in my darkest hour that evening!"I was so  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(surprise) that I didn't know how to answer.

In the short moment of  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(I)staying there, I did nothing at all. But surprisingly he found something he needed in me, just  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I was there.

I have thought about this thing often over the past years. It makes me want to offer whatever kindness I can to others, and I try to make it out and appreciate (欣赏) it.

Richard is a trader and he is very mean (吝啬) with his money. One day, Richard went to a noodle house for lunch. He asked, "How much is a bowl of beef noodles?" The boss answered, "8 dollars." Richard asked again, "What about the beef soup?" "For free." said the boss. Richard said at once, "OK! Give me a bowl of soup, please." After drinking, Richard wiped (擦) his mouth and left. 

Richard came to drink the free soup in the following three days. That made the boss a little angry. On the fifth day, when Richard came for the free soup again. The boss said angrily, "Today the prices are not the same as before. 8 dollars for noodles and 16 dollars for the soup!" Richard thought for a while and said, "OK! I need a bowl of beef noodles and an empty bowl."

The boss gave Richard what he ordered. To his surprise, Richard poured the soup into the empty bowl and only ate the noodles. Then he said to the boss, "I had a bowl of noodles for 8 dollars, but I didn't drink the soup. Now you have to give me 8 dollars back."

There is a man who I see on the subway every morning. He always sits {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (独自) , and never listens to music. Around eight days ago, I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (注意到) him chatting with a friend by {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(标志, 手势). After he hung up, he looked so sad. I wanted to make him feel {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(开心的) than before. I tried to ask him if he was okay, but we could not {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (理解) each other. I felt so helpless. So I started staying up for hours many times a month to learn the sign language. After periods (一段时间) of learning and{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (数个) tries, I could use it to have {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(交流) with others well. When I met him again, I said hello and asked him how he was for the first time. The shocked{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(微笑) on his face made all the tired time meaningful. Then he took his phone out and slowly typed out a message. It just said"Thank you". He seemed proud(骄傲的) of me. That's not a big{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (协议) . What I really want to tell him is"Thank you for helping me be a better {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (人) .

Rick and his classmates are visiting the City Zoo near their school. Mr. Wells, a zookeeper, 1 them around and says, "Let's go and see our new 2 —Daisy, an otter (水獭)!"

The kids happily run to a 3 . There, they see the otter lying near the water, looking sad.

"Is Daisy sick(生病)?" Rick asks.

"No. She 4 needs friends." Mr. Wells says, "But we have no money to buy 5 otter."

" A life without a friend is terrible!" the kids feel 6 for Daisy.

The trip is fun, 7 the kids keep quiet on the bus ride back to the 8 . Suddenly, Rick asks, "Is there anything we can do for Daisy?"

"Yes!" Lisa 9 an idea, "What about having a bake sale? Then we can make some money for the zoo!"

"Great!" the kids all say, "People will love the idea and 10 !"

The next morning, the class all 11 their home-made cakes to school. The cakes are very 12 and soon sell out. "Wow! We've collected 13 $300!" Rick calls, "Let's send the money to the zoo!"

Two weeks later, a thank-you note comes to the class. It 14 .

Thanks for your help! Daisy has a friend. Come and see them at any time!

Touched, the two firefighters shared her kind action on the website. It {#blank#}5{#/blank#} drew millions of people's attention. And later they found out the true story of that kind waitress. Liz Woodward had been {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to make money. Her father couldn't walk because of a brain illness. They decided to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} her by raising $ 10,000 for a wheelchair- accessible car for her father. However, people did not stop when the money raising ended. After hearing of her kindness, Mobility Ventures, the wheelchair- accessible cars producers, gave the family a car for {#blank#}8{#/blank#} as a Christmas gift. The family was moved a lot.

 Liz was so {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to the two firefighters and many strangers for helping her, saying," All the kindness is really unbelievable! I hope this brings hope to other people in similar situations. And I will continue to pass the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to others. I believe the world will be warmer."
