My father was 44 and knew he wasn't going to make it to 45. He wrote me a letter and hoped that something in it would help me for the rest of my life.

    Since the day I was 12 and first read his letter, some of his words have lived in my heart. One part always stands out. "Right now, you are pretending to be a time killer. But I know that one day, you will do something great that will set you among the very best." Knowing that my dad believed in me gave me permission to believe in myself. "You will do something great." He didn't know what would be, and neither did I, but at times in my life when I've felt proud of myself , I remember his words and wish he were here so I could ask, "Is this what you were talking about , Dad ? Should I keep going ?"

A long way from 12 now, I realize he would have been proud when I made any progress. Lately, though, I've come to believe he would want me to move on to what comes next: to be proud of , and believe in , somebody else. It's time to start writing my own letters to my children . Our children look to us with the same unanswered question we had. Our kids don't hold back because they're afraid to fail. They're only afraid of failing us. They don't worry about being disappointed. Their fear —as mine was until my father's letter —is of being a disappointment .

    Give your children permission to succeed. They're waiting for you to believe in them. I always knew my parents loved me. But trust me：That belief will be more complete , that love will be more real, and their belief in themselves will be greater if you write the words on their hearts："Don't worry; you'll do something great ." Not having that blessing from their parents may be the only thing holding them back.

Can you show me who your idol (偶像) is? An idol is someone who we respect (尊重) and love. As for me, my idol is neither a world leader nor an important person in 1 . My idol is my dad. 

Most people believe that a man should go out 2 work. When I was only five, I was 3 ill and needed care all the time. My mother and father both worked and my grandparents lived far away. This was a 4 problem. My dad knew how much my mum loved her job, so he stopped working and stayed at home to 5 me. Many men in this 6 would want their wives to care for the child. But my dad always thinks about others before 7 . This made me full of respect. 

My dad later took a 8 and worked at night. He chose the job so that he would only leave home when I was sleeping. Since then, my dad has 9 and supported me in every- thing I do. I remember when I learned to ride a bike. My dad ran behind me and held the back of the bicycle so that I wouldn't fall. I felt so safe 10 I knew he was near. I didn't even 11 him stop holding me. Soon, I was able to ride by myself. 

My family isn't 12 , and we don't own a big house or an expensive car. But my dad has showed me that 13 is more important than money. Although he now works hard every day and is often very 14 , he always finds time to stay with me. He helps me with my homework, and plays games with me. He has also taught me that I can 15 my dream if I really work hard on it. 

My dad is my idol because he shows me the most important things in life.

A boy finds a penguin (企鹅) at his door. He doesn't know where it comes from, but it always follows (跟随) him everywhere. The boy thinks it must be lost. So he goes to the Lost and Found Office, but no one is looking for a penguin. That night, the boy can't sleep well. Because he wants to help the penguin, but he isn't sure how to help.

The next morning he finds in a book that penguins usually come from the South Pole (南极). So he takes his small boat out to sea with the penguin. It takes them many days and many nights to the south. He tells stories to the penguin on the way to the South Pole, they are happy all the time. Finally, they get to the South Pole. When the boy says goodbye and leaves, he finds the penguin sad, staying there.

The boy feels strange on his way home. No one listens to his stories. Then he thinks carefully and knows that maybe the penguin isn't lost. It just feels lonely (孤单的). He quickly turns the boat around and gets back to the South Pole as fast as he can. But he can't find the penguin. 

When he gets home, the penguin is at his door again! The two friends meet each other happily!

I am Sandy Brown. Tony, Mary and I are in the same class. They are brother and sister but they don't like the same food.

 Mary doesn't want to be fat. So, for breakfast, she only has an egg and a cup of milk. For lunch, she has some vegetables and rice with her friends. For dinner, she likes fruit salad. She likes ice- cream and hamburgers, but she doesn't eat them. She thinks they can make her fat.

 What about Tony? He likes sports very much and he plays volleyball well. He always has a big breakfast: two eggs, some milk and salad. For lunch, he likes chicken, a hamburger and some rice. After school, he plays volleyball with his classmates. So he is hungry in the evening. He likes some vegetables, two hamburgers and some fruit for dinner.

A farmer had four lambs (羊羔). One was black, and the other three were white. The black lamb was friendly to the others. But the white lambs often laughed at (嘲笑) him. They thought he was ugly . Also, the farmer did not like him. He gave bad food to the black lamb.

One winter morning, the four lambs went out to eat grass. They went far away from home. In the afternoon, it began to snow. It was such a heavy snow that the ground (地面) became white soon. They couldn't find their way home.

When the farmer found that the lambs were not at home, he went out to look for them. There was snow everywhere . So it was difficult for him to find his lambs. Suddenly（突然）, he saw something black. He went to it. Oh, it was his black lamb! And the white lambs were there, too. The farmer was very excited. He said happily, "Because of the black lamb, I can find you!"

Ken is a 9-year-old boy. Now, he is on a 1 with his father. The plane(飞机) will go to Beijing and they will have a trip(旅行) there. Ken's mom is busy, so she doesn't 2 with them. 

Ken 3 a girl on the plane. They are of the same age(相同的年龄). The girl is 4 years old, too. Ken says, " Hello! I'm Ken. What's your 5 ?" The girl says, "Hello, Ken. I'm Jane. " Then, they talk about 6 schools, teachers and families. Jane tells Ken she will go to7 , too. She will visit(拜访) her uncle and her8 , Steve. 

"Can I 9 with Steve? " Ken asks. 

"I don't 10 he can play with you, because he is only one month(月) old. " Jane says with a smile(微笑).
