This story took place in 1903. Adam, an American businessman, was carried out to sea by a strong wind. A ship {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (spot) and rescued him, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  was how he got to London by accident. He at once went to the American embassy {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (ask) for help, but was refused. Two rich gentlemen invited him home because of a bet. They asked Adam a few questions, and Adam responded {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a polite manner. They gave him a letter and asked him not to open it until two pm. Adam left wondering {#blank#}5{#/blank#} would happen to him.

    There are two ways to look at this question {#blank#}1{#/blank#}relating to eggs in general or to the chicken egg specifically. Either way, the answer is the same: the egg came before the chicken.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the case of eggs in general, animals such as dinosaurs were laying eggs long before the modern chicken came into existence,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mean) that in this sense, the egg predated (早于) the chicken by thousands of years. As for the chicken egg specifically , according to NPR's Robert Krulwich, the modern chicken{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (hatch 孵化) from an egg, meaning the egg came first.

    The key to understanding the answer, and indeed the question itself, is to understand what the question is getting at. The dilemma is to understand {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a chicken-like bird transformed into{#blank#}6{#/blank#} is known as a modern chicken after being hatched or whether two chicken-like birds {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (lay) and fertilized an egg that then hatched a fully formed chicken. In this case, the latter option is the most realistic, therefore answering the question of which came first.{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (essential), a bird that was similar to a hen and another bird that is similar to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} rooster combined their genetic material, leading to a gene mutation (突变) that resulted in the chicken that is{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(good) known and loved today.

    A good friend not only likes to hang with you and have {#blank#}1{#/blank#}good time, but thinks about you and wishes good things for you when you're apart. A good Friend may not talk to you every day or even every week, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}can come up in a matter of minutes. A good friend will come to help you, even when you haven't talked to him in weeks. Time doesn't lessen a good friend's relationship with you.

She has no problem giving me some of her {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (suggest) either, Last week. I{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (buy) a pair of jeans which wasn't{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(exact) right for me. Some of my friend laugh at me. Beth would give a bees opinion, rather than leaving me hanging with my big jeans. She advised me{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (wear) this mini skirt instead because it made me look pretty.

    I believe that good friends also{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (be) the most honest with you, instead of looking down on you, showing off themselves or ignoring you. Beth is a friend like that. I feel so lucky to have such a friend.

    The UN is an international organization which is made up of countries that want to promote world peace. Now I'm a Goodwill Ambassador for {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(they). My job with the UN is voluntary and I visit countries {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the UN has programmes to help people. When I visit these countries, I'm followed by the television and press and my visits {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (record), which will help people know better about the work of the UN.

    Recently, I traveled to South Africa because of my work with the UN. There I met some {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (woman) who have organized themselves into a group. They collect about 1.35 yuan per day {#blank#}5{#/blank#} each member and add it to some money {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(contribute) by the government. With the money, they can afford 3 {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(acquire) materials and make baskets to sell at the market. If they are lucky enough, their group will become {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(large) and maybe set up a shop.

    Such programmes can change people's lives. There are a lot of other worthwhile programmes like this under {#blank#}9{#/blank#} umbrella of the UN that have helped millions of people worldwide.
