"Someone once asked me, 'What's the tool you would want to give any student'? And I said, 'A mask and snorkel （潜水通气管） set, "' the ocean biologist Thys says in a video. And Thys explains, "Ninety-eight percent of the living space on this planet is the ocean. It's worth a view. "

Thys has devoted her career to seeing the ocean and to helping others watch the great diversity of the underwater world. A big part of what motivates her work is the chance to let people develop a sense of respect for the grandness of the ocean, and to get people to participate in efforts to protect endangered ocean ecosystems. 

Since studying ocean biology, Thys has focused her research on how sea animals live. One animal she particularly studies is the ocean sunfish. "It's so different from any other fish, "says Thys. "It looks like a mistake. Where does the tail go?" Thys adds. "The sunfish provides an entry point to understanding more about the behavior of creatures in the ocean, and about how environmental changes impact underwater ecosystems. "

Thys's work also takes her above ground, where she's looking at ways to create new connections between human populations and natural environments to help address social and environmental challenges. For instance, she's working on nature's effects on mental well-being. 

Thys's passion for her work is evident in every lecture, video, and public appearance she makes. Using the media, Thys encourages people to learn about the ocean and love it. Due to many ocean research projects and activities from the media, Thys is up to her neck in work every day. She could hardly spare plenty of time for a good rest. Thys's devotion to her work as an ocean scientist and ecological warrior is infectious. She's a role model and an inspiring guide to ocean life. 

Anytime I travel on my bicycle across the country,I'm always amazed by how kind people can be to strangers.

One night,my friends and I were camping in a town in Missouri.There was a severe storm and we were getting  1 .A complete stranger came by to2 us that there were tornadoes(龙卷风)heading  our  way.The stranger invited us to his home.We were surprised by his3 for our safety.Later we learned that there had  been a lightening strike near the place where we had camped and several cattle had been4 .

Fortunately,we spent the night in a nice dry home.We were5 given the opportunity to take a shower. The next morning we had breakfast with the family and6 contact  information.In  a way we  felt  like  the family had become a part of our journey.This was one of the most heartwarming7 of my life because this  family had nothing to8 by being so kind to us.We were9 not the type they would usually10 but they treated us with respect and kindness.  The kindness of a stranger always11 my faith in humanity.Whatever the person12 always comes with no strings attached and that's the most13 part.

That family 14 us so much that during the rest of the trip,we 15 others out every chance we got. We even bought food with our busking(街头卖艺)tips for the homeless.It's always heartwarming when giving feels  as good as receiving.

Though new term had begun for weeks, the new girl Molly still remained 1 around her classmates. Now she was sitting at the picnic table alone. She seemed unsure of what to do or say, yet I could see her eyes longing for 2 .

Brianna, the class clown, was standing near the playground making the other students laugh, as usual. "Brianna, Molly looks awfully 3 . Would you invite her to join us?" I said.

Brianna sighed. I could tell that she was 4 to do what I was asking of her, but I also knew she was so sweet and kind. I had specifically 5 her for this task. She looked at her friends, then at Molly.

Knowing this choice was 6 her, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a D-buck, our class currency(货币). I needed to 7 her cooperation.

"Here, I'll 8 you for your time."

She offered an insincere smile, grasped the green paper, and headed off.

I watched closely as the girls talked. When they finally walked back together, I sighed with 9 .

A minute later, Brianna came back and handed me the D-buck.

"I shouldn't keep this." Her eyes fell to her feet, 10 radiating from her quiet voice. "I don't want Molly to think I only went to get her so I could earn a D-buck. She's my friend."

Then Brianna skipped back to amuse her classmates again, and who laughed for the first time that week? Molly.

Devin Jackson, who went from selling tickets to tourists on Times Square to working as an engineer for a number of major corporations, told ABC News that he was 1 that there weren't many Black engineers or coders in the industry. So he decided to do something about it and 2 . 

In 2017, Jackson co-founded the non-profit organization We Build Black which 3 meetups, training courses and workshops for up-and-4 Black engineers. 

In the six years since it 5 , Jackson said his organization has raised millions of dollars, and trained and helped over 3,000 members with their 6 . 

"I became a software engineer and realized that I need to share the 7 with everybody around me and, you know, show my community 8 those freedoms," Jackson said. 

Sheree Edmund, a software engineer, told ABC News that the program allowed her the 9 to grow and have a space to pursue computer programing. Edmund, who was 10 with high functioning autism (孤独症) three years ago, said "It was a community, and an atmosphere where I didn't feel like I had to 11 who I was to fit in. And that made it a lot less 12 to be my real self. "

Jackson encouraged others to 13 their interest in tech and engineering skills, no matter how hard it may seem to 14 the industry. 

"You got to control what you can control at the end of the day and what you control is 15 ," he said. "So get to the grind (磨炼). That's really what I want you to take from this at the end of the day. "

Fifteen-year-old Sansa has been writing for eight years and has been working on a book for the past four. Feeling stuck and unable to write, she started searching for writing groups in Los Angeles, looking for guidance. When she found WriteGirl, she was inspired.

Keren Taylor started WriteGirl in 2001 as a way to help teen girls who did not have access to creative writing programs. "Teen girls are incredibly vulnerable(脆弱的) and invisible," Taylor said. "They really need to be lifted up and inspired."

At WriteGirl, 400 women writers volunteer to mentor(指导) 700 teenagers a year. Every girl who has gone through the mentorship program has gone to college and several have pursued careers as professional writers. Through the program, girls dive into poetry, fiction, songwriting, play and so on, learning techniques from professional women writers. This leads to well-rounded training and sets WriteGirl apart from other organizations.

A typical exercise at WriteGirl is mic and rant, a 30-second session before writing for each girl. As a vehicle for teens to get their ideas out, it empowers girls to explore anything meaningful to them. "Not the flowery language, or rather, complicated expressions that sound skillful, but more of the natural, this is what I'm thinking and what I'm feeling." Taylor said.

Sansa's mentor Danyella Wilder is attracted by the long-term nature of mentoring at WriteGirl. Wilder wishes she had a program like this herself when she was 15. "To just have an organization where people are spending their time just to tell you, ‘Hey, good job,' or ‘That was amazing.' You're at the age where you need to hear that."

Have you ever felt the need to grab a pen and start writing your thoughts on paper? Words—beautiful and fascinating. But you know what is better than putting your imagination somewhere? In my case, to win the competition for the best novelist.

That was a small tournament organized by my school annually to 1 our creative writing and vivid imagination. Since I had a burning passion for 2 , I decided to show my power. I thought no one could 3 me.

I finished a long story and e-mailed it. As I 4 the email every day, my eyes were wandering to 5 the line "Congratulations! It is a great pleasure to inform you that…". 6 , no such thing came.

I was not accepted. I 7 my abilities. The next day at school, I tried my best to be 8 , avoiding the usual contact. But in the corridor, I 9 Stacy Williams, my school rival. Could she be the 10 ? I started walking sneakily. In class, I was just looking out of the window at the 11 clouds which were a reflection of my soul.

Thankfully, a film that night—Forrest Gump lifted my 12 . I wouldn't let a stupid competition 13 my future. I could win on the next one or even at a better tournament. The important thing was to 14 my head and face my challenges without losing hope when everything seemed 15 .
