If your job requires a lot of sitting, you could be putting your health at danger.

The American Journal of Epidemiology(流行病学)did a study in 2010 on the connection between sitting and an individual's physical health. In the study,53,440 working men and 69,776 working women were surveyed on their time spent sitting. The subjects were all disease free when employed. The researchers identified 11,307 deaths in men and 7,923 deaths in women during the 14-year follow-up.

The findings: Women who reported sitting for more than six hours per day had an approximately 40 higher all-cause death rate than those who reported less than three hour a day,and men had an approximately 20 higher death rate.

Well, now is a fine time to get this information. But why didn't they tell me this years ago?I would have planned on taking a more active job instead of the sedentary(坐着的)job of an editor.

So what can you do if you have to work for a living at a job that requires a lot of sitting? Here are some ideas:

Take frequent breaks. It is recommended that workers vary activities, change their position, and take short breaks every 20 minutes to rest muscles and increase blood circulation.Get a standing desk. Some studies have shown that working from an upright position may be better for health. The serious fitness people can even purchase a treadmill (跑步机)desk. It only goes about one mile per hour.Have a walking meeting. If your group is kind of small, going for a walk while discussing topics is a good alternative.

Years ago, the American writer Kurt Vonnegut often said there was one story that would always make a million dollars: "Cinderella"(《灰姑娘》).

"Cinderella" made more like $70 million in ticket sales when it opened last weekend. But the movie got a mixed reaction. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter praised the movie and said, "Anyone will find something to enjoy in it." Steven Rea of The Philadelphia Inquirer called the movie "a winning re-do." Richard Corliss of Time magazine wrote that "Disney finally got Cinderella right." Other people were not as happy with the movie. Sara Stewart of the New York Post wrote, "This Cinderella is all dressed up with nowhere very interesting to go."

Although different people think differently towards the movie, what is clear, however, is the movie's business success. It is not only popular in the theaters but also in sale. And Disney has widened its usual market for "Cinderella" products.

There are products connected to the Disney movie targeted(面向) not only at little girls, but women, too. For example, the famous shoe designer Jimmy Choo worked with Disney to create "Cinderella's shoes." You can buy them for about $5,000. At that price, you would not want to lose one at the party, even if that is the way you get your prince(王子).

The makeup(化装品) company MAC quickly sold all its products connected to "Cinderella." HSN is a popular website selling clothing and objects for the home. The marketer is now also selling "Cinderella" products.

So, is there anything left for the children, those people we think of as the traditional audience for the age-old tale? Yes, you can find toys and other children's products at the American store JC Penney. Of course, you can also visit a Disney store.

Imagine yourself on a boat looking out at the horizon and all you can see is the water meeting the sky with no land in sight and you are sailing straight ahead to meet the world. Jesse Martin does not have to imagine: he is living in it.

On Dec. 7, 1998, at 17 years old, Jesse set sail from Melbourne, Australia on his boat, attempting to become the youngest person to sail alone and nonstop around the world. He sailed south of New Zealand, through the South Pacific, around South America, north on the Atlantic, back south past Africa, through the Indian Ocean and back to Melbourne. Even as a young child, Jesse had been an adventurer who traveled all over Europe and Asia with his parents. Born in Munich, Germany in 1981, he moved to Australia with his family when he was only two years old. They moved close to a rainforest in Cow Bay, about 3, 500kms north of Melbourne, where they built a small house with no electricity or running water. Jesse grew up at the beach enjoying the outdoors to its fullest. At 14, he sailed for the first time with his father and brother, Beau. It was after this trip that he began to dream about sailing around the world.

Jesse's family played an important role. "I was made to believe I could do anything, although there were others that were not so encouraging or supportive" he says. "People that I looked up to, respected and trusted told me I couldn't. Thankfully, I trusted myself. There were people that said that the boat couldn't be ready by the time I had to leave." However, through perseverance (坚持不懈) and belief in himself, he was able to do what many told him was impossible.

On Oct.31, 1999, more than 10 months after he set sail, Jesse Martin went down in history as the youngest person to sail around the world alone, nonstop and unassisted.

Favorite Books for Young Readers

The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses by Paul Goble

( For ages 5 to 8)

Everywhere you look in The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, there's a tiny, precise and lovely detail—a plant, a bird, a lizard, a shell and of course the great horses. This story of a Plains Indian girl who runs away with a band of wild horses, and eventually becomes one of them, won the Caldecott in

1978. The recognition was well- deserved for its insightful portrayal(描写) of the bond between the human spirit and the wilderness.

Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall

( For ages 4 to 8)

Waves roll by, seasons come and go, keepers tend to their duties, and through it all, the lighthouse stands tall, sending its light out into the darkness, signaling hello to all the ships at sea. The Caldecott winner Sophie Blackall does a significant job showing the timeless nature of lighthouse life— and the change that's coming.

The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander and Kadir Nelson

( For ages 6 to 9)

One of the most— if not the most— beautiful books on this list. Kadir Nelson's fancy, photorealistic paintings pair with Kwa me Alexander's powerful words for a tribute (致敬) to decades of Black brilliance, pain and perseverance. " This is one of those texts that really spoke to me; it was beautifully written and I

felt it was a really great pairing of words and pictures of an author and an artist, " Nelson said.

Harlem by Walter and Christopher

( For ages 9 and up)

This poem by Walter Dean Myers—a revered elder of children's literature— celebrates Harlem, where he grew up, full of" colors loud enough to be heard" and songs first heard in the villages of" Ghana/ Mali/ Senegal". His son Christopher's vivid illustrations, part paint and part co llage (拼贴画), don't talk down to kids, instead pulling them into a lively city.
