On October 13, a small plane flying to Chile accidentally crashed into a mountain in the Andes. How some of the passengers 1 to live is one of the greatest survival stories ever told. 

The survivors stayed inside the remains of the plane, using seat covers for blankets, and waited for a 2 that never came. Days turned into weeks. It was urgent to find a way to 3 . Three of the passengers—Canessa, Parrado, and Vizintin volunteered to 4 through the mountains to search for help. When they left, each man wore5 clothes: three pairs of socks, a plastic bag around each foot to keep the water out, boots, four pairs of trousers and four sweaters. Many of the clothes came from those who died in the crash. The three men 6 that they would survive and bring back help. 

For part of the first day, they were glad to make some 7 . But as the land and weather changed, climbing became 8 . After several days, they reached what they thought was the top. They had imagined this moment for days. On the other side of the top, they hoped, would be a valley leading down and out of the mountains. However, they saw the same snow-covered tops. All hope wasn't 9 . Although they were still in the middle of the mountains, Parrado 10 two low tops far away that didn't have snow. If they got there, they would be out of the Andes. 

Within the following days, they walked towards the two low tops. Little by little, the landscape began to change. Snow 11 completely, and flowers were everywhere. "This is the valley," Canessa said. "This is the way out." Then things of humanity started to appear—a few cans on the ground, some farm animals in a field. By December 21, the extremely

12 men made it to the town of Los Maitenes, and a rescue team was sent immediately to search for the survivors who were still high in the Andes. 

Finally all of the remaining survivors were 13 . The memories of the crash in the Andes would be with them forever, but for now, their terrible 14 was over. They had made it out—15 . 

On their {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（arrive）in Toronto ，Li Daiyu and her cousin spent a few hours touring the city and having dinner with Lin Fei ， {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was Li Daiyu's mother's old schoolmate. She told the girls there were a few more Chinatowns in the Greater Toronto Area and there were many Chinese people  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（live） in Canada. Therefore ，they could get all {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（kind）of great food there from all over China.

At night ，the train left late and arrived in Montreal early the next morning. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} surprised the girls was that all the signs and advertisements {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（be）in French and many people spoke English with {#blank#}7{#/blank#} accent. As their train wouldn't leave until evening ，they spent the afternoon  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（go）around the city. When they sat in a restaurant ，a young man named Jean-Philippe joined them. He told them something about the city and hoped they would stay a little {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（long）to visit wonderful sights of the city.

On the train towards the province of Nova Scotia ，the cousins dreamt {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（happy）of the beautiful cobblestone streets ，old brick buildings ，and the red maple leaves of Montreal.

Dada Band is a popular Chinese rock group from the 1990s. The band {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（found）in Beijing by a group of young musicians who were deeply influenced by Western rock music but sought {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（create）a sound that was distinctly their own.

71-year-old, Helen Lloyd Jones from Cardiff recently completed her first marathon and is encouraging others of her age to take up the challenge. "Do it. We only live once," she said after the event.

Helen took up running in her 50's while working as a teacher. After jogging alongside one of her students during a sports day race, Helen said, "I felt terrible, absolutely terrible. It was a wakeup call and I started to practise jogging."

Helen started attending her local parkrun, but decided she needed a bigger challenge to keep her motivated. Once the idea of running 26.2 came into her head, she was decided, and set her sights on running a larger race, using the support of the crowds to get her round.

Helen didn't tell her husband for the first five months of her training as she knew he'd be worried about the toll the distance might have on her, saying g afterwards, "The difference between the man who waved me goodbye and the smiling man who greeted me when I returned was a reflection of how much he had been worrying. But he is very proud of me."

At 71, Helen explains how she didn't do her training "by the book". After trying to do a long run, a speed run and a hill run each week, she soon found her body was not able to recover fast enough between sessions. Instead, she chose one long run a week with her local running club Pegasus and friend Sally, so she could feel confident with the distance. 

A proud grandmother, Helen is I now taking her grandchildren to parkruns and junior parkruns. She hopes that they will remember running with their grandmother when they grow up. Are there more marathons in her future? "I said I would only do the one, but have a feeling that if I got a place in London or New York... I might change my mind."

Road trips were part of my childhood, but it is hard to say they are entirely fond memories. As someone who easily got carsick, I spent most of the long drives with my head against the window or leaning awkwardly to the side. More often, however, I would have to sleep through the CDs in our beaten car.

There was one CD that we often played, one that became the symbolic Road Trip CD in my mind. It was an album in Mandarin (普通话) by my mom's favorite music artist, Leon Lai, who I understood was a major Cantopop legend in his day. We seemingly only played the unidentified Leon Lai CD during our hour-long road trips. I didn't know what it was called until I was in high school and successfully uncovered it by searching through Leon Lai's albums on Spotify until I found the one like the CD cover art.

向往，or Longing, a 1998 Mandarin release, didn't seem to be one of Leon Lai's most famous works. My mom didn't seem to remember why she had it either. The fact that it was in Mandarin, however, made my parents even more willing to play it on repeat. To make up for me and my brother's embarrassing unfamiliarity with the Chinese language, throughout our childhood they were keen on having us watch shows and listen to music in Chinese as a way for us to immerse ourselves and make up for the ground we lost. They were usually in Mandarin, because that was what our formal Chinese schooling taught us, even though Cantonese was the dialect our family actually spoke. This at least meant I could use what I learned in class to understand the lyrics in this album, though I found the singing harder to understand.

Due to the endless exposure to the songs on the road the genuinely memorable mix of upbeat and ballad-like tunes, as well as how well it shows my complicated connection to the Chinese language, this random album holds a special place in my heart.

Samuel loved animals since childhood. When he grew up, Samuel worked in the 1 near his hometown.

There was a 2 animal called Luna, the only white tiger in the zoo. Samuel and she had a special 3 that no one else could understand. When young, she was subjected to ill treatment. By the time the zoo 4 her, she was already shocked and did not try to 5 anyone. With great love and patience, Samuel was able to break Luna's shell.

Unfortunately Luna died during childbirth. Samuel could not cry. He had to take out the cub as 6 as possible before it was too late!

However, the little creature was shy and 7 at everyone trying to touch it. But Samuel was not afraid. He showed the same 8 and patience that he gave to his mother, gradually opening his heart.

One day, Samuel's wife got a job abroad and he had to move with her. Samuel cried when the day of 9 came, In the following five years, he couldn't really be 10 . Therefore, they 11 her job and returned to their original city.

But when he returned to the tiger cage, he could not see Blanca anywhere. Rather 12 , Samuel leaned on the glass of the cage. "Maybe your friend could not 13 you for forgetting or failing him," Samuel thought.

Suddenly he heard a loud sound of a glass blow behind him. Blanca 14 as quietly as possible to Samuel's surprise, and jumped to the window. It was Blanca's game when he was a cub. Samuel jumped in surprise and. 15 . But the moment he saw that great friend, he knew they would never separate.
