It started as a food for the rich. But by the 17th century, all Italians enjoyed pasta. This is when the first pasta machines were invented. As pasta became easier to make, it became cheaper to buy. Pasta is still an important part of the Italian diet. But now it is an important part of many other people's diet too.
Many people buy pasta, but it's easy to make. You only need flour, salt and eggs. It takes some time to mix the pasta dough together. Then you can choose which type of pasta shape to make. A pasta machine is very useful for this, but you can also cut the pasta by hand.

The top of the glass must be above the water. ◎Put the plastic wrap over the bowl and the glass. Put a stone on top of the plastic wrap. ◎Put the bowl outside in the sun. What will happen? The water will get hot and then become gas. The salt will stay in the bowl, and the gas will rise and hit the plastic wrap. Then it will become water again and fall into the glass. If you take the plastic wrap off the bowl, you'll see water in the glass. If you taste the water, you'll find that there isn't any salt in it. |
