Through Sullivan's careful instruction, the little girl learnt to understand and communicate with the world around her. She  ▲  Sullivan to read and write in braille (盲文). She could understand only by touch. As Helen grew older, she made good progress and learnt to read more. She also learnt to write and even speak. When Helen studied in the university, Anne sat beside her. She listened to the professors' words and spelt them on Helen's hands.

After Helen finished university, she visited a lot of countries. She spoke about her life. She was famous for her courage and hard work. She tried her best to help other people who were blind or deaf. Her first book The Story of My Lifewas printed in many languages. And her other four books were published later on.

Kevin stepped off the bus, holding a package in his hands. He worked as a mail carrier for a big company. All he needed to do was deliver a package to an office in New York City; the 1 would take him there.

When he boarded, he found lots of passengers around. As Kevin walked to his room, he saw the first-class section. Everybody inside was wearing 2 clothes. He would like to socialize with the wealthy people inside, but it seemed a bit hard. Instead, he went to his room. It smelled 3 , and the floorboards were wet and broken in some areas. He could also hear the sound of the engine. 4 , something fearful came up to his mind, but he wasn't sure why.

He put on a thick sweater and took a short walk on the deck (甲板), but he still felt 5 . That night, he couldn't fall sleep. He went back on deck. It was 6 and dark outside. He looked around, but it seemed that everything was all right. "Just go back inside," he thought. Then Kevin saw it. A giant iceberg appeared on the surface of the ocean in the distance!

"Help!" He cried.

People looked at him as if he was crazy, but he continued to 7 until he saw the captain.

"There's an iceberg out there," Kevin said to him. "Move away, or we're sure to 8 ," he said, pointing toward the iceberg.

The captain saw it and immediately instructed the sailors to change the 9 . "Without your help, we would have hit the iceberg. That would have been a terrible 10 !" he said to Kevin.

Kevin felt proud of saving so many people. Now he knew to always trust his natural sense.

 阅读下面四篇材料, 然后从各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。

These days, I find that mail delivery(投递) is a little different. I got a notice of my mail's arrival through email from a friend of mine. I went to the mailbox after the time the mail usually arrived. Nothing, but my neighbors' mail. I thought that was unusual.

I decided to take my neighbors' mail to them. I was going to put the mail in their mailbox when a tall man came and shouted at me. "Hey, what are you doing?" He snatched(夺取) the mail from my hand, open the mailbox, and pointed inside. "You were after this!"

I shook my head, "No, I was just bringing it to them. I got this mail by mistake in my box today." He gave me a funny look and went back into his house.

I got the knock on the door the next morning by two police officers. The angry tall man had phoned the police and told them I was a crazy old woman going around mixing up everyone's mail. Before I could finish telling them about what was going on, the officers had watched the dog coming near my mailbox with mail in his mouth. He took out the mail that was in my box and put letters in. He pushed the door closed with his nose, picked up the new pile of mail he had got from my box, and repeated this all the way down the next street. We all started laughing.

The dog had belonged to a postman who had died. It had been trained to put mail in and take mail out of the boxes. After his owner died, he was left alone, but he still carried on with his duties.

I went by to talk to the tall man to describe what had happened. He was very pleased when he realized I was not a mail thief. He did, however, adopt(领养) the little guy.
