My name is Nancy. I have a brother and a sister, Paul and Laura. For breakfast, Paul likes eggs and bananas. Laura and I like hamburgers and bananas. For lunch Paul likes salad and hamburgers. We like vegetables and oranges. And for dinner Paul has fish and potatoes, we have French fries and bread(面包). We really like French fries.

    A group of old classmates, who have succeeded in their work, got together to visit their teacher. Their conversation soon turned to complaining(抱怨) about the stress(压力 ) in their work and life. The teacher went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and many cups. Some of the cups are expensive and lovely, but some are cheap and not beautiful.  The teacher told them to help themselves to the coffee.

     When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the teacher said, "Have you noticed all the nice looking expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the cheap ones? It's OK for you lo want only the best for yourselves, but that is why you have the stress in your work and life even if you're very successful now. "

    "All of you really wanted the coffee, not the cups, but you cheese the beast cups and were eyeing each other's cups.

    "Now think about this: life is the coffee, and money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold life. They do not change the quality (质量) of life. Sometimes, we just care about the cups, and we fail to enjoy the coffee. So, don't let the cups drive you; enjoy the coffee instead. "

    William Shakespeare was a writer of plays and poems. Some of his most famous plays are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth. He wrote thirty-seven plays in all. They are still popular today.

    He was born in England. At school he liked watching plays. He decided to be an actor when he finished school at the age of fourteen. In 1582,he married a farmer's daughter. She was eight years older than he was. Their first child was a daughter. Later they had twins. In 1585, Shakespeare left his hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. His wife and children stayed behind. No one knows why he left or what he did between 1585 and 1592.

    At twenty-eight, he moved to London and joined a theatre company which opened the Globe Theatre in 1599.He became an actor, and he also wrote plays. He usually acted in his own plays. He made almost no money from his writing. But he made a lot of money from acting. With the money he bought a large house in his hometown.

    At the age of forty-nine, Shakespeare retired（退休）and went to live in Stratford-upon-Avon. He died at the age of fifty-two in 1616. He left his money to his family. He left the genius（天才）to the world. You still see his plays in English and in many other languages. He is one of the most famous writers in the world.

    In 1996, Joe Richman had been working as a radio reporter on US national radio for several years and was looking for a new idea for a radio programme. He met a teenager called John Cutler. John had Tourette's Syndrome—a brain illness. This meant that Josh did not always have control of his movements and speech.

    John was just beginning high school when he agreed to work with Joy on a story about his illness. Joe wanted John to keep a radio diary of his daily life. He gave John a tape recorder and asked him to record what happened to him every day. John and Joe agreed that an important part of his story would be talking to his school friends about Tourette's Syndrome. John was embarrassed(尴尬) to record at school—his friends might laugh.

    One day, John took the tape recorder to school, but he kept it inside his bag all day. He was too afraid to bring it out. After months of feeling afraid, he took the tape recorder out on lunch time. What happened next was a total surprise. John tells it best:“Everyone jumped at the chance. Everyone started asking me questions about that, I had never really talking about it to anyone—except my mom and dad. ”

    That was an important day in John's life because he learned to be more open about his condition. Now John says he wants to do radio diaries until he's 80 years old. He learnt a lot about himself by doing the radio diary. It made a great radio programme, too. Being a reporter is like having a passport. You can ask questions, be curious and explore new worlds. Radio is the perfect way to be on the radio and everyone likes to listen!

    It was a rainy night in New Orleans, US. At a bus station, I watched a young girl cry as her baggage(行李) was taken down. It seemed she'd lost her ticket. She begged the bus driver not to leave her behind.

    “Losing your ticket is like losing money,” the bus driver said, and left her in the rain.

    But then an old man stood up and blocked the driver's way. “How can you leave that girl out there? You know she had a ticket. You can't just leave her here. You can't leave her in a city where she doesn't have a friend. You will meet your schedule(日程安排), but she might meet her end.”

    The driver showed no sign that he'd heard or even cared about the young girl's problem, or how her travels went.

    So the old gentleman said: “I'll pay for her ticket. I'll give her a little money to help her on her way.”

    He went and bought a ticket for the girl. “How can I repay the kindness you've shown tonight?” she asked. “We're strangers who won't meet again. A mere ‘thank you' doesn't seem right.”

    The old man said: “What goes around comes around. I've learned this with time. What you give, you always get back. Always be helpful to others and give what you can spare(分让).”

    Christmas is coming. James and Ted write letters to Santa Claus. Both boys ask him for the same thing a bike. They ask for only one, because they want to ride together. Is it sweet?

    After dinner, the two boys go to bed. James says, "Ted, if Santa Claus gives us the bike, Jim can be our teacher and teach us how to ride it. "

    "Oh, yes. It's really great. Can I ride first, James?" Fed asks.

    "Why? I want to ride it first!" James is not happy.

    Mum hears their words and comes in. She says, "Boys, Santa Claus wants you to be good brothers. Then he'd like to give you the present. " James and Ted say sorry to each other and go to sleep in each other's arms.

    Mum says to Dad, "Should we buy two bikes for them?"

    "No, we shouldn't. They must learn to share things with each other." says Dad.
