举一反三
Hi, everyone, I'm Jane. Two years ago, my husband bought me a bicycle. If you live in a town, it is often faster than a car and you don't have to worry about parking. You can leave it anywhere. As it has a seat at the back and a basket in the front, I can take my small daughter to school, to the library, to the shops, and to anywhere.
I use it most in summer when the weather is warm and dry. It can be very unpleasant in winter when it is cold and the snow is heavy. Of course, you must be careful on a bicycle. Accidents are not the only problem. One day I went shopping with my friends. But when I came back, I found that my bike's front wheel was missing. It was a long walk to the bicycle shop. Now I have three strong locks(锁).
My husband uses my bicycle sometimes for short journeys. He says it is better than waiting for a bus. He still uses his car for longer journeys, but I think that all the sitting down is making him fat and lazy. I like riding on my bicycle because I can exercise a lot and get much fresh air, and this makes me feel much younger.
{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Jane thinks a bicycle is __________ than a car if you live in a town.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#} It's convenient to use a bicycle because you can ride it to anywhere and needn't worry about __________.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} When it is __________ in summer, Jane rides her bicycle.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#} For short journey, Jane's husband doesn't want to wait for a bus. He would like to __________.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Jane can get a lot of __________ and fresh air, so she likes riding very much.

Our words carry huge weight. They may influence people for years, and even for a lifetime. They provide them with courage to go on or one more reason to give up.

When I was fourteen, my family moved to another city. Junior high was always a difficult time for me, and the move made my ninth-grade year even harder. I remember walking into the dining hall for the first time. The other kids had good friends with them, but I didn't know anyone. I felt lonely and went to the nearest seat after getting some food. The kids beside me looked at me up and down and then laughed. I could feel my face turning red at that moment. Then one of the Kids broke the ice. “Man! You have one BIG nose!” I felt hurt and didn't know what to say. I wanted to cry. But I managed a little smile—as if it didn't hurt me at all. But it did. From then on, I would often look at myself in the mirror. I studied the big nose closely. It seemed that I was just living for my nose. Thankfully, I grew out of this influence finally. But it really took me twenty years

There is another thing that is kept deep in my mind. I remember going through a terrible business failure. I lost everything. I called my dad for help and he told me a lot about how to deal with the failure. What he said gave me a lot of courage and confidence(信心)to go on with my business.

The year 2024 celebrates the Year of the Dragon. Among the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, the dragon is the only one that is not real. But Chinese people have loved it so much for thousands of years. Though it looks scary, Chinese people respect it and even see themselves as the "descendants of the dragon".

Wen Yiduo (1899-1946), a well-known Chinese scholar (学者) of his time, said that the idea of a Chinese dragon formed gradually during tribal (部落的) wars. When a strong tribe that highly respected snakes beat other tribes, the tribe mixed the features of its enemies' totem (图腾) animals with its own to create something truly strong.

In the West, dragons also have a long history in mythology (神话) and films, for example Sleeping Beauty and Dungeons & Dragons. What may be surprising, however, is that the dragons share similar beginnings. Both Eastern and Western records say dragons are like snakes.

One of the earliest records of dragons dates back to the jade carvings (玉雕) in China more than 5000 years ago. These jade carvings look like snakes curled into a "C" shape. The Penguin Book of Dragonsalso says that in the ancient world, dragons were often described as big snakes.

What might have made us have the idea of dragons in the first place? Carl Sagan, a famous scientist, answered the question in a book called The Dragons of Eden. He thought people created dragons from what they saw in the natural world and a fear of predators (捕食者).

Riding a Mobike on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to the right, you see a Sichuan-style restaurant. After walking into a store, you see that Huawei smartphones are on sale. But you're not in China-you're in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities.

Chinese products have been going all over the world. ____①____ Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. To meet local people's tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes. "One example is the meat."said Yin Hang,a Chinese student who is studying in Australia."We like to eat meat with the bone in, but people here don't. So the local Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones, even for fish." ____②____

____③____  It is reported that in many cities in Europe, many stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers. More than half of US-owned drones(无人机) are Chinese models, according to China Daily. They're not only made in China, but also designed and developed in the country.

____④____In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable. But now, things have changed greatly. More people trust Chinese brands. "Made in China" becomes cool. "They are beautiful and offer something special that American phones don't have."an article on CNN once said about Chinese smartphones.

As it is said, Chinese government has been trying its best to improve its national brands of all kinds to meet the needs of modern life.
