Human activity is bringing big trouble to Mount Qomolangma. Both microplastics ( 微塑料)and climate (气候) change have a bad effect (影响) on the mountain, scientists say.

The highest mountain in the world is facing the problem of microplastics. A recent study found that the mountain is full of these plastics, which are usually less than 5 millimeters in size. They canbe found in many things, including the clothing, tents and ropes that are left behind by climbers.

Microplastics take thousands of years to break down ( 分解) on their own. They are already known for posing a danger to  sea animals. Now people are worried about Qomolangma, as themountain already suffers (遭受) from serious pollution.

Global warming is also affecting the mountain, as well as its climbers. Another study points out that the glaciers (冰川) around Qomolangma have thinned by nearly 100 meters since the 1960s. As the ice melts (融化), cracks (裂缝) in the ice are becoming deeper and more dangerous, bringing danger to those who try to climb the mountain, according to Global News.

Landslides (滑坡) are also becoming more probable. There are many parts of the mountain that are held together by just frozen rocks or permafrost (永久冻土), according to Professor Joseph Shea at the University of Northern British Columbia, Canada. When this permafrost melts, the risk of dangerous landslides goes up.

When I was a little boy, I lived next to David. He liked to plant trees in his large yard on weekends. But the way he planted trees was quite different. He never watered his new trees. I asked him why he did so, and he said that watering trees would spoil them. "If you water the trees, each baby tree will grow weaker and weaker." said David. He told me that watering these new trees would make roots (树根) shallow (浅), but deep roots were very important for trees. I didn't understand his words at that time.

Several years after I left home, I came back to visit my parents. When I walked by David's house, I saw the trees that he planted. They are strong now. I suddenly realize that planting a tree is like raising a child. As a father of two children, I shouldn't care for them too much. Instead, they should depend on themselves. In that case, whatever happens, they can make their own decisions.

In most 1 , people usually eat traditional food on special holidays. 2 special day in North America is Thanksgiving. In the United States, this festival is always on the 3 Thursday in November, but in Canada it 4 on the second Monday 5 October. Thanksgiving is a time 6 thanks for food in the autumn and 7 good things people enjoy in life. Families see Thanksgiving as a time to get together and usually 8 it with a big family meal. The main dish of this meal is almost always turkey, a large bird. To go with the turkey, people often prepare other things, such 9 gravy, cornbread, mashed potatoes 10 pumpkin or apple pie. 

Ken is a worker in a newspaper. He works hard and is self-confident (自信) when he works as an advertisement salesman (销售员). Every time Ken begins his work, he will do some preparation (准备). He closes the door, stands before the mirror and reads the bosses' names ten times. But this time, his workmates think the task is very hard and it is impossible to finish. 

With his great effort (努力), three bosses change their mind and make a deal with him the first day. Three days later he finishes another three tasks. One month passes, only a boss still refused to cooperate (合作) with him. 

Ken works harder. He tries to learn something about his company and his family, and visits the boss every day. Every morning, when the boss opens his door, he sees Ken outside his company smiling to him and waiting for his answer.  ★  He keeps on visiting him every day. The boss asks him why. 

"It is like having a class. You're really a good teacher. You're teaching me how to keep it up when I want to do something important,"Ken answers. 

The boss nods, "In fact, you're my teacher. You're teaching me what is the power of perseverance."
