Is your food and drink healthy? A lot of ice-cream, hamburgers and cola are unhealthy（不健康的）. Meat is healthy but too much meat is not good for children. Cola and candy are very sweet, and too much sugar is bad for you. Eat the right food and be healthy. Carrots, eggs and sweet potatoes are good for your eyes. Milk, cheese and fish are good for your teeth. A bit tired? Have lots of delicious chicken soup! It is important to remember: eat well, stay healthy, and don't get fat!

The following are some suggestions on healthy eating.

● Eat noodles or rice, not hamburgers.

● Have a good breakfast every morning.

● Drink juice, water, tea and milk, not cola.

● Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, not candy or ice-cream.

My brother Cody and I were in the back seat playing the guessing game I See when the snowstorm started.

"I see something green," Cody said. "The green highway sign?" I guessed, although it was hard to read it. I looked around. "The green hat on the girl in the car behind us?"

"Yes!" Cody laughed. "Your turn."

Dad spoke to Mom. "I don't like the looks of this. It's getting harder to see anything."

Suddenly, Dad stopped the car. We found the car nearly hit the tree on the roadside. Nobody talked. Cody and I stopped playing I See. It was like we were all helping Dad by holding our breath.

"We need to get off and wait out this storm," Dad said. "But I can hardly see the road, not to mention an exit (出口)."

Just then, I saw a red, blinking light high in the sky. "I see something red!" I shouted.

"Not now, Kenny," Dad scolded.

"I hey were red words," I continued.

"Let's forget about the games," Mom said.

But I had seen it. "It was like one of those really tall signs that flash GAS or FOOD like we've seen near exits."

"You're right. There's an exit!" Mom cried, pointing ahead. Dad carefully drove the car toward it. Finally we could see the red sign clearly enough: EAT HERE. Dad let out a big breath. We slipped and slid our way into the parking lot. Then we got off and moved into the small restaurant. A moment later, another family came in behind us. I saw the girl with the green hat.

"We followed your car's taillights here," her mom told us. "We would never have found this place without you."

"We wouldn't have found it either," Dad said, winking at me, "if we weren't riding with someone who's very good at I See."

When I was fourteen, I made my first visit to the United States. It wasn't the first time I had been abroad. Like most English children, I learned French at school. And I had often been to France, so I was used to speaking a foreign language to people who didn't understand French. I believed that I wouldn't have any 1 problems when I went to America. So I was really looking forward to having a nice easy holiday there.

How2 I was! The misunderstanding (误解) began at the airport. I was looking for a public telephone to call my friend Danny who had been in America for two years and told her that I had arrived. A friendly old man saw me looking confused and asked if he could 3 me.

"Yes," I said, "I want to give my friend a ring."

"Well, that's nice," he said. "Are you getting married? But aren't you a bit too 4 ?"

"Who is talking about marriage?" I replied. "I just want to give my friend a ring to tell her I've arrived. Can you tell me 5 the phone box is?"

"Oh! I see. " he said, "There's a phone downstairs."

When Danny and I met up, she explained the misunderstanding to me. Then I knew "Give somebody a ring" could mean deciding to get engaged or marry someone else. I felt shamed for myself.

"Don't worry," she said to me. "I had so many difficulties at first. There are lots of words which the Americans use differently in meaning from the British. You'll soon 6 all the funny things they say. Most of the time British and American people understand each other!

Last Sunday, Mark's grandma invited him to her pottery studio (陶器工作室). He was excited, because Grandma didn't give her other grandsons such an invitation. 

As soon as Mark stepped into the studio, he began to look forward to putting his hands into some wet clay (粘土) and placing his bowl into the hot kiln (窑). "Be careful with that," Grandma said as Mark picked up one of her bowls. The boy carefully put the bowl back on the table. Then Grandma showed him some of her bowls and asked him to make one himself. Mark started happily. 

However, five hours later, Mark was sad. His first bowl, a blue one, looked more like a rock. His second bowl, a red one, was hardly any better. "I'll never make it!" Mark said angrily, looking at his work. 

Hearing this, Grandma stopped what she was doing and went to Mark. After seeing what he had made, she said, "Don't worry. You just need to be more patient." She sat next to Mark and helped him with his work. About one and a half hours later, they finished making a beautiful yellow bowl together. 

Mark was happy when he looked at his work. "Thanks," he said to Grandma. Grandma looked at him and smiled. "You're great. Remember not to give up easily no matter what you do in the future," she said. Mark said he would follow Grandma's words.

Mushrooms are tasty and rich in healthy nutrients (营养物), which makes some people  collect them in the wild. However, eating the wrong mushrooms can make you sick or even dead. Therefore, growing mushrooms yourself inside your own home is getting popular.

There are two ways to do this. You can buy a set of materials from a garden store called a "grow kit (工具包) "or you can put them together yourself.

Grow kits(GK)

Grow kits are a great way for beginners to try growing mushrooms. These grow kits include partly-grown mushroom starters, called "spawn." (菌种体) The spawn is set in soil (土壤) and is planted in its own grow box. You put the spawn in water overnight. Then you return it to the box and open it to fresh air. Water it twice a day.

Within two or three weeks, you will be eating mushrooms with more on the way. It is fun and easy.

Putting them together yourself(PTTY)

If you want a larger harvest, it will cost less to put the materials together yourself. It is easy, too.

For starters, you will need a wooden, metal, or plastic box and some soil mixed with compost (肥料) and other materials. You will also need to buy fungal spores (真菌孢子) (something like seeds).

With clean hands, fill the box with your soil and materials. Put the spores evenly over the soil substance (物质) and water it twice a day gently.

To grow quickly and effectively, the spore-topped soil material should be kept away from direct sunlight. It should be kept at or close to 21℃. Put a piece of cloth lightly over the top of the box to keep moisture(水分) in. But do not cover it tightly (紧紧地). After it was coated with mycelium (菌丝体), move the box to a cooler place —12℃ to 15 ℃.

Mushrooms grow very quickly. With their tops fully open, they will be ready to harvest. That will be in about three to four weeks. Use a sharp, clean knife to cut them at soil level to avoid influencing nearby growth.
