A pop singer has to work very hard to become popular. He must give the public what they really want and need, or he must find a new way of singing that will a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} their attention. Even when he has succeeded and his records are sold e{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, he can not rest. Then he must work h {#blank#}3{#/blank#} than ever to remain popular, because there are always younger singers trying to become famous and to steal some of the popularity.

The life of a successful pop singer isn't e {#blank#}4{#/blank#} at all. He can only relax when he is alone, because everything he does is watched and reported by the special newspaper written for the fans. The fans are the most i {#blank#}5{#/blank#} people in the world for the singer. They buy his records, they go to his concert, and they make him rich and famous. But they can be very d{#blank#}6{#/blank#}  , too. Sometimes they do anything to get a souvenir (n. 纪念品). They steal handkerchiefs, they tear off buttons，and they even cut off pieces of the unlucky singer's hair. Many singers have been forced to ride(v.即兴表演). A pop singer has to spend a lot of money on clothes b{#blank#}7{#/blank#} he must always look special and different. And most important, he must always keeping smiling.

When I was a child, I was never really very interested in nature. Then one day my aunt bought me a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} for my birthday. It was called Birding on Borrowed Time. When she gave it to me, I was a little {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. It didn't seem very interesting, and I wanted new games for my phone. My aunt made me promise {#blank#}3{#/blank#} it. So I did, and I loved it. I found it was so interesting that I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} forgot about time. In fact, I didn't do anything else {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I finished it-- no TV, no games, nothing. As soon as I finished the book,I went out and bought a pair of binoculars(望远镜).

After that, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} watching birds was one of the most interesting things in the world. To watch the birds, I needed to read books to learn about birds. Now I know more birds' {#blank#}7{#/blank#} than before. I can tell what they look like, how they fly and where to find {#blank#}8{#/blank#}.

Watching birds is interesting but not {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. Sometimes I have to stay in one place for a long time, and I have to take heavy binoculars and cameras with me. But when you find a beautiful bird and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} photos of it, it is really exciting.

Have you ever kept animals by yourself at home? Even though my family lives in the 1 , our backyard is like a farm as three chickens are living there!

I still remember the day when I bought our chickens at a feed store when they were just chicks. We named 2 Sleepy, Twinkle, and Scott. Sleepy got her name 3 she always fell asleep in our hands.

At first, the chicks had to 4 in a box with a heat lamp to keep warm. Soon they were ready to move out. Believe it or not, our dog, Trixie, is so 5 to the chickens that she even lets them eat her dog bones! Once a coyote (郊狼) showed up behind our house. Trixie barked to keep the chickens 6 .

Our chickens depend on us to 7 them. We keep their coop (笼子) clean and fill their nesting boxes with soft bedding. In summer, we hang a screen on their coop to keep 8 the hot sun. We feed the chickens corn pellets every afternoon, but they 9 eat pebbles (鹅卵石)—They don't have teeth and eating pebbles helps them grind up their food. How interesting it is!

The chickens love to go outside when it 10 . The wet soil (土壤) is a good 11 to find insects and slugs. When Scott gets wet in the rain, her feathers stand up like spiky hair. She looks so funny!

My favorite part about having chickens is seeing what 12 eggs they lay. Sometimes the shells are tan. Sometimes they are light pink or green!

I also like the sounds that the chickens make when they lay their eggs. They 13 things like "rah, rah" and "bah-bock, bah-bock!" Whenever we hear the sounds, we know that more 14 are on the way.

Did you know there are more than 100 kinds of chickens? Each one has its own 15 . For example, Rhode Island Reds are known for laying lots of eggs. Silkies are small and have soft feathers.

Having chickens is a lot of fun. They make us laugh in the busy city life, and they lay eggs for our breakfast. What good pets!

Do video games do harm to our children? Today, many children spend a lot of their free time playing games on the Internet. In the UK, 99% of kids aged 8 to 15 play video games every week. This information tells us that the benefits and dangers of video games must be carefully considered. 

For many people, video games are fun. They have bright lights, funny cartoons and exciting stories. Everywhere you look, you can see children playing these games. They play on buses and trains, in restaurants and even at school. 

Video games are educational too. They make kids think in a creative way and they have to move their hands and eyes quickly. This can improve the way that a child's brain works. What's more, video games make children use their imagination. The player has to do many creative things, like drawing, telling stories and building things. Video games are also a good way to teach children about technology because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play. 

However, a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children. First, children can download many games for free. This means that parents often don't know if their children are playing violent or scary games. Second, many children spend too much time playing games on computers and this can lead to health problems. Third, if children spend too much time playing games instead of doing homework, they can have problems at school and get bad grades. Finally, video games can affect children's social skills. If children spend too much time playing video games by themselves, they might not learn how to play with their friends. 

In conclusion, it seems clear that video games have some advantages and some disadvantages. It is up to parents to know what games their children are playing and how much time they spend on them. Parents should also make sure their children get enough exercise and spend time with other children. 

Jess Bhamra is the 18-year-old daughter of an Indian family in London. Jules Paxton is the same age and the daughter of an English family. Jess is crazy about football, but because she's a girl, she isn't allowed to play. Sometimes she plays in the park with some boys and one day, Jules, who also plays football, sees Jess playing. They get on really well and Jules invites Jess to try out for the local women's football team coached by Joe. When he sees how good Jess is, Joe puts her in the team. When Jess's parents find out that she's been playing football without their knowing, they make her stop.

The team gets to an important final. Unfortunately, the final is on the same day as Jess's sister's wedding. Joe asks Mr Bhamra to let Jess play, but he refuses. However, her father notices how sad Jess is. So halfway through the wedding, he lets Jess go and she rushes to the game!

When she shows up, there are only thirty minutes left and her team are losing 1-0. Soon, the score is 1-1, and when there's a free kick, Jess has to bend the ball around the other team's players to score. She makes it, and the team wins!

A university in California offers soccer scholarships(奖学金) to Jess and Jules. Jess finally convinces her parents to let her go. Jess and Jules set off for America and both of them become top players in their team. Their parents feel proud because they make their dreams come true.
