Chinese student praised for inspiring US graduation speech

Receiving her Master of Science in Math Finance from Boston University, Cai Yujing, who comes from Nanjing city east China's Jiangsu Province, spoke about her hometown and family members present at the ceremony, and then shared her 6-year experience studying with students from different cultural backgrounds.

    In her 7-minute speech, Cai talked about how she adapted to the diverse community at the Questrom School of Business and established mutual understanding with fellow students.

    Overcoming awkwardness, nervousness, and even occasional anger when exchanging ideas with people from different countries, she said she also experienced the joy of sharing, inspiring and embracing each other, adding that such an experience opened her mind to learning about and embracing diversity.

    Cai's speech won a lot of praise online with some saying her address highlighted the positive perspective of Chinese students.

    The event that stands out in Tom's memory happened one morning when Tom was only ten years old. He was at home with his elder sister Jane. Tom was doing his homework when he heard raised voices. At first he thought nothing of it since customers in the motorcycle shop directly below their flat often became loud, but he soon realized this time it was different.

    “Quick! Quick! Remove the motorcycles from the shop.” someone yelled.

    Then a thick burning smell filled the air. When Tom opened the front door of their flat to investigate, a thick cloud of smoke greeted him. The motorcycle shop had caught fire and people were running and crying.

    Jane, who had been playing the violin in her room, hurried to the living room. They rushed out of the door and along the corridor(走廊) through the smoke.

    They were heading towards the stairway at the far end of the corridor when Jane stopped in her track. She turned around and headed back the way they came. Tom had no idea what she was doing, but he followed her.

    Jane had suddenly remembered the lady in her 70s who lived next door to them, who they called Makcik, Malay for auntie. Jane began banging on Makcik's door, but got no answer. As the smoke thickened around them, Tom could see many of their neighbors—some still in their pyjamas(睡衣；宽长裤)—running for safety. The thought of fear crossed his mind.

    "She might have run for safety like everyone else!" Tom cried. However, Jane refused to give up. I know Makcik's still inside.” She said she was familiar with Makcik's daily routine and was certain she would still be sleeping. She pounded the door. "Go downstairs. Go now! Go!"

Grandpa Cecil Rodgers has narrowly escaped a phone scam (欺骗). It all began with a telephone call…

Cecil is an elderly man from Cincinnati, Ohio, who was looking forward to spending time with his family over the holidays. They were all coming to visit him at his Elmwood Place home, including his adult grandson David. One afternoon, while napping in bed, he was awakened by the sharp ringing of his telephone.

"Who will ring me up at this time?" He wondered. Peering towards the phone, he hesitantly picked it up. From the receiver came an urgent voice. "Grandpa, this is David. I am in trouble." Before Cecil could ask him any question, he continued, on and off, half crying, "I hit a woman's car and she was seven months pregnant. And they charged me with drunken driving and I'm in prison..." He sobbed loudly. His voice was so broken that Cecil could hardly match it with the gentle and warm voice of his grandson. Poor David! He must be suffering! Cecil panicked immediately.

Seemingly, he understood Cecil's anxiety and attempted to comfort him with a solution. "Now the only way to help David is to go to Wal-Mart and transfer $2,300 to another store. I would pick up the money and then use it to post David's bail (保释金)." "I am sure everything would be OK as long as the money is in place," he added. Ultimately, he lowered his voice, "Don't tell anybody. You don't want to make your grandson look ugly in your neighborhood." The lawyer hung up even before Cecil could give an answer.

The lucky part of Cecil's day was when he stepped into cashier (收银员) Audrella's line in Wal-Mart.

If there was one thing more than another that Brenda wanted for her birthday, it was a pair of skates. How she hoped her parents would give her a pair!

They finally found the video on YouTube, in which an animal lover, Addy, shared a heartwarming and innovative project: building a wheelchair for a pet cat with mobility issues due to a hind- leg injury. As a caring pet owner, Addy took viewers through the DIY process of making a custom wheelchair to aid her cat's movement and improve its quality of life. She began by measuring the cat and based on the measurements, cut the plastic pipes to make a frame（支架）. Then she connected the pipes and attached the wheels to the back end of the frame. Finally, she added a harness（保护带）to ensure it was fit and comfortable for the cat.

Seeing the cat in the wheelchair moving around happily with the support, Allen thought that would be the best option for the little cat.

But the wheelchair in the video seemed too big and too heavy for a newborn cat. Where could he find the suitable materials?
