China is a nation with a rich culture in handwriting (书法). "Even though the computer is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (wide) used today, Chinese people should not forget the skill of writing with hands," said a Chinese government officer.

    So far, the computer {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (become) a very useful tool to help people to write. As people use computers more often than before, many people have forgotten how to write Chinese characters (字). People often makes plenty of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mistake) in writing.

    The Chinese character test shows that nowadays, many college students' handwriting has got even {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(bad). Many college students do not know how to make words or sentences in Chinese character in the right way. Not only kids but also many adults have met {#blank#}5{#/blank#}same problem. They might be able to tell the general form of a certain character. However, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you ask them to spell out the character correctly, they can't. On the other hand, they can type out the character on a computer without thinking {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(two).

At present, China is trying its best {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(solve) this problem. With the use of certain technologies, teachers can write their teaching contents (内容) and the students can reply by writing in the nation language teaching course. We can also write letters {#blank#}9{#/blank#} our relatives and friends instead of sending messages. This can help {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (we) practice handwriting. Besides, there are many ways that we can try.

It happens every spring. Flowers come out everywhere on the same day. But how do plants "know" when to flower?

For years, it has been a difficult question for scientists. But a US research group may have finally answered it—the secret lies in a protein(蛋白质)called FKF1. This helps plants to know when the days become long and when they get short. Then they can tell the seasons(季节)are changing.

Researchers found the FKF1 protein when they were studying a plant called Arabidopsis. It is sensitive(敏感的)to sunlight, and can be made active by sunlight.

Plants produce this protein every day in the late afternoon all year. If there is no light at this time, for example, in winter when the sun goes down early, the protein won't be active. But when spring comes and the days get longer, the FKF1 protein can be made active by day light and the plants "know" it is time to flower. " If there is light in the late afternoon, plants will know that the days are getting longer and that it is the best time for flowers to come out,"explained Takato Imaizumi, leader of study. But when conditions are poor for growing, such as during autumn or winter when the weather is cold and days are short, plants won' t flower.

Although researchers have only studied how the FKF1 protein works in the Arabidopsis, they believe that it is the same with many other plants, including crops such as rice and wheat.

"If we can control when flowers come out, we might be able to increase crop production," Imaizumi said.

Bamboo is a wonderful plant for many people around the world. There are over 1,000 uses for it. People make tables, clothes, medicine and musical instruments with it. Pandas may eat bamboo every day, and people can also eat it.

The fastest growing plant in the world is bamboo. Some bamboo grows so quickly that people say they can watch it grow. The speed of growth depends on the type of bamboo, the earth and the season. Normal bamboo grows 3-10 cm a day. It usually grows in tropical (热带的) areas. It can also be found in other parts of the world. Bamboo plants are found in Asia, Australia, parts of Africa and South America.

    ▲    Like today, people use it because ifs very strong. They use it to build houses, boats and bridges. The Chinese made a bamboo bridge over the Min River in Sichuan, China almost 1,000 years ago. You can still visit it today. Also, bamboo is still used to build houses today, especially in China and Philippines.

As a part of history, bamboo is very important. The great scientist Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb (灯泡), but he made it perfect. He wanted the material inside to bum for a long period of time. He tried over 1,000 different types of materials. However, none worked very well. One day, he tried to use a piece of bamboo and the light bulb lit up for over a thousand hours. This invention helped other scientists to make the modern light bulb we use today.
