Reading an English newspaper is a good way to improve a student's language ability. As there are many useful and common words in an English newspaper, it may help students increase their vocabulary（词汇量）as well as improve their reading skills. （1）他们可以从报纸上学到新的知识。 But what is theproper way to read an English newspaper? Do students need to look over all the content（内容）of the newspaper?

   The first step is to choose a right newspaper with good language. Then turn to the front page and read the headlines（标题）to know what has happened. As the most important things are put on the front page, it's easy to find out what you're interested in and then turn to the page to read it completely.（2）There is no need to go through all the articles.

    Secondly, read newspapers every day. Remember words through context（上下文）, in which these words may appear repeatedly. （3）Once they appear several times, you will remember them easily. Don't look up every unknown word in your dictionary.     It may take a long time for some people to learn to speak English. However, by following these tips（实用的提示） you should be speaking English in no time.

    Tip I: Forget about having a large vocabulary. Only learn the words you will need most. For example, if you are traveling in an English-speaking country, make a list of all the possible sentences and questions that you would need to know, such as "Do you know where the nearest bathroom is? "and" I am lost. Can you help me?" Think about what sentences you would want a traveler to know if they came to your country and couldn't speak your language.

    Tip 2: Once you have a list of vocabulary that you think will be most useful to you, make sure you understand the meaning of each word and know how to use each word in a sentence.     Hi, my name's Ben. My family, that's Mum, Dad and me, live in Broome in Western Australia. Western Australia is about 80 times larger than Italy, but only 1.5 million people live there. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It has a population of about 12,000. It's right on the coast and is known for its famous Cable Beach, which is 20km long.

    We live in the town in a house with a large garden.  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} We drive to Cable Beach and look for a quiet place to swim or to fish. We don't go swimming from October to March because there may be box jellyfish in the water. The box jellyfish is one of the most dangerous jellyfish. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you are attacked by one, the best thing to do is to pour vinegar（醋）over the area of your body where you are hurt. That's why we always take a bottle of vinegar with us.

We wanted to do some fishing and set up camp about 20 metres from a river. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Bill's father told us to get up and we quickly got out of the tent and ran to the car, which was only 10 metres away.

    Bill's dad started the car and turned on the headlights. In the light, we could see a big crocodile pulling the tent into the river!
