Carol has three sisters. All of them are very beautiful. Sometimes she feels very bad because she doesn't look like them at all. She is short and heavy and she doesn't have big eyes or beautiful hair.

As young girls, her sisters often go to parties on weekends but Carol always stays at home—reading books and doing the homework. She says it's her dream to go to university(大学).

Ten years later, Carol grows up. All her sisters get married(结婚) at a young age and don't live a happy life. But Carol is now a teacher in a university and she spends most of her free time taking trips. Every day her life is colorful.

Well, you see it won't matter if you are not beautiful but you must study hard all the time. That may be the only way if you want to make your dream come true.

Nowadays, it's very usual for people {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(order) takeout, but did people eat takeout in ancient times?

Maybe you don't think so. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} fact, there was take out in the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279).  According to history books,  Emperor Xiaozong (1127–1194) liked ordering takeout late at night. His servants{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(go) out to pick up the dishes and bring them back to the palace.

Common people also ordered takeout. The owners of restaurants got their waiters to go out into the streets and ask loudly which dishes could {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(send) that day. People could then place an order. Delivery(快递)  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(work) would bring food to their homes later. In the famous Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival(《清明上河图》).  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}takeout worker is doing delivery work.  We can easily see the man {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(walk) with food in his hand in a hurry.

People at that time even had boxes for takeout dishes. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they weren't like normal boxes. They were long{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(wood) boxes with several layers(层).  People also used plates made of two layers of porcelain(瓷). Hot water could be put between the first layer and the{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(two). In this way, they could keep the dishes warm.

What would people like to eat on their birthday? The answer would 1 different in different countries.

In many countries, people have birthday cakes 2 candles. The number of candles is the3 age. The birthday person must make a wish and blow out the candles. If he or she blows out all the candles in one go, the wish will 4 .

In the UK, people sometimes put a candy in a birthday cake. The child with the candy is 5 .

In China, it is 6 popular to have cake on your birthday. But many people still eat very long7 for their birthday. They never cut up the noodles because the long noodles are a8 of long life. In some places, Chinese people also eat eggs on 9 birthdays. They are a symbol of life and good luck. 

 All of these birthday foods 10 be different, but the ideas are the same. They bring good luck to the birthday person.

To teach kids friend- making skills, people in Australia started a project called URStrong. It gives kids classes on friendships to help them make friends. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Here are some ways of making a new friend from the friendship classes.

Introduce yourself first. Look the person in the eye, smile and say," Hi! My name is ... What's your name?" After he or she answers, say something like," It's really nice to meet you." It is really as simple as that! {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you get them wrong, they will feel sad!

Ask questions. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} But remember, you have to be a good listener before you can ask good questions.

Don't be shy. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Then your new friends can get to know you! Soon enough, you will be the best of friends!

Enjoy something together. Try to find an activity you both like and ask the other person to play with you.

I'm Emma. This is my classroom. It's large. There are 40 student desks in it. And a teacher's desk is in the front of the classroom.59.There's a smart whiteboard next to the blackboard. Oh, and there's another blackboard at the back of the classroom. We always put up important notices there. There aren't any lockers in the classroom. We put our things in the desk drawers. Every week, we change seats. I sit in the middle of the classroom this week.
