牛津版(深圳·广州)初中英语九年级上册期末测试卷(二)

阅读理解

I come from a large family. My parents both have many brothers and sisters. When I was a boy, during late July, my family would hold a reunion (聚会) every year. Usually more than 50 family members would attend the party.

The reunion would take place in a large public park in the late afternoon because it wasn't too hot at that time. Each family would bring their own food to eat. Usually each family had a special dish that would be shared. Some families would bring potato salad while others would bring a dessert or self-made special drinks. There was always more than enough food.

Almost everyone would play games. Younger people played softball, football, volleyball and so on. However, Uncle Sam always taught Cousin Chris and me to play badminton. Chris and I went to the same school and we kept beating other players and won several state games. The older family members would sit under a tree and watch the games or just sit around and talk. Everyone enjoyed himself/ herself because it was a good chance to catch up on what his/her relatives were doing that year.

Those family reunions are the best memories I have of my childhood. Today it seems that everyone is too busy to hold or attend family reunions. Now, no matter how nostalgic I feel about those family reunions, those memories remain very clear in my mind.

(1)、Which of the following about the writer is NOT mentioned?
A、He has a lot of relatives. B、He is a married man now. C、He is excellent at playing badminton. D、He misses the time he spent on those family reunions.

A、Feeling excited and also a little angry. B、Feeling surprised and also a little sorry. C、Feeling happy and also a little sad. D、Feeling lucky and also a little strange.
(3)、What would happen in the family reunions?
A、Younger people would play sports while older people would sit and then watch or talk. B、Older people would arrange games the night before the reunion. C、All the young boys learnt how to play badminton. D、Mothers would cook a special dish in the park together.
(4)、Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A、There was always a lot to eat in those family reunions. B、It was always the writer's family that held the reunion every year. C、The writer's family still practises the tradition of having a reunion once a year. D、In those family reunions, everybody learnt what had happened to others.

Teachers often find it challenging to collect homework from students before class, and sometimes they even become upset about it. To solve this problem, a 13-year-old middle school student whose family name is Zhang from Shenzhen created a smart robot, which won first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children's Invention Awards.

This amazing robot can quickly and efficiently (高效地) collect homework from students without any mistake. It uses advanced radio frequency identification (RFID, 无线射频识别) technology to read special tags (标签) on each student's notebook. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag with their names and subject information. When students place their notebooks on the robot, it "reads" the tag and adds it to the correct list.

Not only does the robot help teachers collect homework, but it also allows them to check who has and hasn't handed in their homework by receiving messages from the robot over Wi-Fi. This invention has got the high praise from many teachers, who believe that Zhang's creativity and talent will lead to even more useful AI tools in the future.

Due to his success, Zhang expects to become a scientist when he grows up. "I enjoy doing scientific and creative projects like making model airplanes in my spare time. Inventing gives me a sense of joy and achievement," he said.

With his love for science and innovation (创新), Zhang is well on his way to making the world better through his inventions. His story serves as an inspiration (激励) for other young people to go after their dreams and make a difference in their daily life.

Everyone was happy on Saturday morning, but not Tom. He sat in front of a high fence(围栏). "Too bad! It's a nice Saturday morning but I must paint the fence. My friends are playing, but I'm sitting here. " He got up slowly and started to paint. Then he had a great idea.

His friend Ben was walking down the street and he was eating a big red apple. He saw Tom and said, "Tom, I'm going swimming, but you can't come with me. You're working. "

Tom said, "I like it! I can go swimming every day, but I can't paint a fence every day. "

Ben was surprised and he watched Tom. He painted slowly and carefully, and he often smiled. He looked happy. At this time, Ben wanted to paint too.

"Listen, Tom, let me paint a little, " said Ben. "I want to try. "

Tom looked at Ben and said, "I'm really sorry, Ben, but Aunt Polly wants me to do it. You know, I'm very good at painting. My brother Sid wants to do it, but he's not good at painting. "

"Oh, Tom, let me try, please!" said Ben. "Here, you can have my apple. "

Tom was happy but he didn't smile. "OK, Ben, you can paint for a short time. "

Then Tom's other friends came by. They watched Tom paint and they all wanted to try. They gave Tom a new kite, a cat, an old knife, a key and some other things.

Tom's friends painted the big fence, and Tom just sat under the big tree and watched them. He thought, "When something is difficult to get, everyone wants it. "
