Just a few days after his 18th birthday, Beijing 2022 gold medal winner Su Yiming received a surprise gift—a letter from Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China.

In the letter, Xi expressed his congratulations(祝贺) to Su and other sportsmen in ice and snow sports for their great achievements(成就) at the Beijing Winter Olympics, hoping what they had achieved would encourage young Chinese to aim(立目标) high.

When Su first stepped onto a snowboard at the age of four, a future as a world-class sportsman seemed to be" a dream too big" for him. Little did he know that he would not only compete for his country but also take home the gold medal. With the great excitement of winning an Olympic gold medal still fresh in his mind, Su wrote a letter to the president, telling him how lucky he felt to have made his dream come true.

Su still remembers what Xi wrote in the reply," The new era is the time for young people to realize their dreams."

"I have always kept those words in my mind," Su said.

"When I made up my mind to be a professional (职业的) snowboarder, I know there is a big difference between my performance and that of the top sportsmen in the world. But I have been working hard to realize my dream. Now my story shows the fact that hard work will pay off." Su said.

Su believes the sky is the limit." Find the thing you love, believe in yourself and do your best. Finally, your dream will come true."

Now Su has his strong wish to win all the competitions in his sporting field.

Hi, my name is Robert. Last summer I had a great vacation. I went on a trip with my parents by1 for two weeks. During（在…期间）the first week, we drove for four to six hours a day,2 we never felt tired. At night we stayed in big hotels. Many hotels had swimming pools. I was very happy to3 there. There were many people in the hotels and the rooms there were4 , so we often had to sleep in one room to save some money.

As a kind of traditional Chinese dress, Ma Mian Qun (horse face skirt) first appeared in the Song Dynasty and grew popular during the Ming Dynasty. The two sides of Ma Mian Qun are pleated (起褶的), and there is a smooth part in the middle, commonly known as "Ma Mian".

Why is it called "Ma Mian"? In fact, "Ma Mian" is a kind of structure used for protection in the city wall system. However, all the books about Ma Mian Qun only show that the smooth surface without pleats in the middle is called "Ma Mian". But there is no further explanation of how Ma Mian Qun got its name.

Ma . Mian Qun is colorful, mostly red and blue. Red means good luck and joy. According to Han customs, women usually wore red skirts during celebrations of festivals. In the Qing dynasty,blue was also common and popular, paired with black and yellow.

Ma Mian Qun has different kinds of patterns with different meanings. For example, dragon and phoenix patterns show the love between a man and a woman or a beautiful marriage.Peony(牡丹) is a symbol of wealth and honor.

Recently, Ma Mian Qun has become a popular form of skirt for Hanfu fans. More and more modern fashion designers find ideas from Ma Mian Qun. For example, some get ideas from the patterns. Some connect the styles of Ma Mian Qun with T-shirts or blouses, which are more suitable for everyday wear. Even western fashion has been influenced by Ma Mian Oun for many years.

A 13-year-old American has made a cheap machine that can help blind people read.

The blind can read by using Braille —- a system of small bumps(隆起物) that the blind touch to read the letters. The machine that makes these small bumps usually costs at least $2, 000. It is called Braille writer. The American schoolboy, Shubham Banerjee, made a new Braille writer from a Lego tool that lets people create robots. Banerjee has called his new machine the Braigo — a combination(组合) of the words Braille and Lego. It costs just $350. It works by changing electronic text into Braille and then printing it with computer or mobile machine.

Baneryee designed(设计) his Braigo last year for a school science exhibition. Since then. he has caught the interest of Silicon Valley in the US.

The big technology company Intel spent money on Banerjee's machine last November, but they did not say how much money they put in. Banerjee also got $35, 000 from his father to help him start the project. His father works as a computer engineer(工程师) at Intel. He spoke about why he gave so much money to his son, saying, "We as parents started to be interested more, thinking that he's on to something and this invention has to continue." Banerjee told the AP News, "My dream would probably be having most of the blind people.. using my Braigo."

Martin is my youngest son. He likes staying alone and he seldom laughs. As the boy's mother, I was 1 about him. I took him to see the 2 in many hospitals, but it didn't work well. 

Nothing could make him happy except the recycling truck（垃圾回收车） passing by my house. Every afternoon, he raced to the front of the house, waiting 3 the truck.
