A few weeks ago, I went into Chase's class for help. I e-mailed Chase's teacher one evening and said, "My son keeps telling me that his homework is maths, but I'm not sure whether I should believe him. Help, please." She e-mailed right back and said, "No problem! I can help Chase after school anytime." And I said, "No, not him. Me. He gets it Help me."

And that's why I stayed with Chase's maths teacher. We talked about teaching children. We agreed that subjects like maths and reading are not the most important things that are learned in a classroom. We also talked about something else--kindness and bravery. 

And then she told me this. 

Every Friday afternoon Chase's teacher asks her students to take out a piece of paper and write down whom they'd like to sit with the following week. She also asks the students to nominate (推荐) who is the most popular student that week. They needn't write down their names on the paper. 

After the students go home, she takes out those pieces of paper and studies them. In fact, Chase's teacher is not looking for a new seating chart (表) or "popular students". She is looking for lonely children. She's looking for the ones who don't want to talk with others. She is finding out whose names are not noticed by their classmates.     ★        

After watching Columbine, the wise woman knew that all violence (暴力) comes um loneliness. So she decided to start fighting violence early and often, and what she is doing is SAVING LIVES. 

And she finds the lonely kids from those lists and tries to help them. It's maths to her. All is love--even Maths. 

Once upon a time all feelings went to an island for a vacation, and each was having a good time. Suddenly, a warning of a strong storm was announced, so all rushed to their boats. Yet, Love did not wish to run away quickly. There was so much to do. But as the clouds darkened, Love realized it was time to leave. But there were no boats to use. Love looked around with hope.

Just then Richness was passing by Love in a large boat. Love shouted, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity (虚荣) who was also passing by in a beautiful boat for help. But Vanity said with a cold voice, "No, I can't take you with me. My boat will get dirty with your muddy feet."

Sorrow passed by after some time. Again, Love asked for help. But it was useless. "No, I can't take you with me. I am so sad. I want to be by myself."

When Happiness passed by a few minutes later, Love again called for help. But Happiness was so happy that it hardly cared about anyone else.

Love was growing worried and hopeless. Just then somebody called out, "Come, Love, I will take you with me." Love did not know who was being so kind, but jumped onto the boat happily.

After getting off the boat, Love met Knowledge. Love asked, "Knowledge, do you know who was so kind to give me a lift when no one else wished to help?"

Knowledge smiled, "Oh, that was Time."

"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is able to understand how valuable (有价值的) Love is."

May 10th is Meg's birthday. She gets a gift. It is a new jacket from her sister. The jacket is very beautiful and she is very happy. 

One day，Meg finds a button（纽扣）of her jacket is lost. She looks for the button everywhere，but she can't find it. The next day，she doesn't wear（穿）that jacket to school and is unhappy all day. After school，she goes to the clothes stores and wants to buy that kind of clothes. But she is disappointed. 

Meg tells her sister about that，her sister says，"We can change all the buttons. Then the buttons will be the same. "The jacket is nice again and Meg is happy again. 

Glass frogs （玻璃蛙） are not really made of glass，but their skin is transparent，just like glass.In fact，the skin on the underside （底部） of a glass frog is so transparent that you can see the inside of its body.Without using an instrument （仪器），you can see the frog's heart and other organs（器官）.Sometimes you can even see the food moving through the body.

These unusual﹣looking frogs can be difficult to find in the rain forests of Central and South America.The skin on their fronts and the green color of their backs often blend in （融入） with the leaves（叶子） they rest on.Also，they are just about the size of a coin.

These frogs have an interesting way of catching insects.Scientists believe the glass frog's back looks like the frog's eggs.If a fly （苍蝇） flies down for a meal on a frog's back，it will be in for a surprise when the glass frog opens its mouth.

The male glass frog protects （保护）real eggs.To keep away unwanted animals，a male glass frog will try to drive away other animals if they get too close.At first.the male frog makes loud noises to warn （警告） other animals to leave the area.If that does not work，the frog may fight with other animals until they give up and leave.

 It is possible that in 50 years the only tigers in the world will be in zoos. One hundred years ago, there were maybe 100,000 tigers in the world. Today scientists are not sure how many are left, as it is difficult to count them. There are maybe only between 5,000 and 7,000 tigers in the world.

 People only find tigers in Asia and Africa. They have already disappeared from many countries. There are no longer any Caspian tigers. They died out many years ago. The living condition of tigers in other parts of Asia is also serious. There are perhaps only 100 Chinese tigers left. In southwestern Russia, the number of tigers is a little higher. There are about 450 tigers left. On some islands in Sumatra(苏门答腊) with many thick forests, there are about 500 tigers. If this situation continues, they might disappear completely.

 Why are there fewer and fewer tigers? The first reason is that tigers are meat-eaters. They need a lot of land to find enough food. Also they live in forests and people cut down many trees. Many years ago, tiger shooting was a sport, especially in India. Local people sometimes kill tigers because they kill their cows. Another reason is that Chinese people use all parts of the dead tigers for traditional Chinese medicine, including the bones(骨头) and so on. People think this medicine will make them live longer.
