Anna's coat is too small. She goes shopping with her mother on Sunday. They go into a clothing shop first (首先). She wants to buy a new coat. Anna finds a green coat in the clothing shop. She likes it very much. She tries it on, but it's too small for her. She wants a big one, but the big one is not green. She isn't happy. Then she wants to go to another (另外的) shop to have a look. Then they find a new shop. The shop is big. There they see many kinds of coats in different colors and sizes (尺码). Anna tries on a green one. It looks nice on her. Anna is very happy. She takes it for fifty yuan.

As the New Year of 2024 comes, some people love the tradition of making resolutions. So, how can you keep the New Year flag standing? Come to our school hall at 3:00 this Friday afternoon and listen to a talk by Ms. Ann Smith!

If your New Year's plan is to exercise five days each week, a plan like "I'll exercise on weekdays" would be not clear enough. A plan like "I'll exercise at school on weekdays during my lunch break"would be better.

★Get a little help from your friends.

Tell a few friends about your resolutions. Then if you want to give up at some point, they will be the ones to make you hold on.

★Make it fun.

Jessica stopped to look at the poster in the hallway (走廊) at school. There was a competition from CNSA, one lucky student would have the chance to do his or her experiment in space. But it was just in four weeks, Jessica felt worried and she didn't even get an idea for the project.

Jessica had a biology class next period, and she stayed for a while to talk to her biology teacher, Ms. Li.

"Do you have any idea what I can do for the competition, Ms. Li?" Ms. Li looked at Jessica thoughtfully. "Well, Jessica, I can't tell you exactly what to do, but maybe you could think of an experiment that will be good for people's health. Many plants in China are used in medical treatments. You could consider doing an experiment using one of them." Answered Ms. Li. Jessica smiled and said, "Thank you, Ms. Li, you've given me a seed (种子) of a thought!" Jessica walked away and headed straight to the library. She asked the librarian to help her find books about plant science. After looking through many books, her eyes were drawn to the picture of foxglove (毛地黄), a plant which was in her grandparents' garden.

Then, Jessica did further reading about this plant. She found that it was often used to treat the irregular heartbeats. She was excited about her discovery and believed that her experiment would find out if foxglove would grow more rapidly in space. In the next few weeks, Jessica designed an experiment that tested how different light, soil and water can affect the growth of foxglove plants. A week before the competition, Jessica completed her project, made a few changes her teacher suggested and mailed it to CNSA.

A break one day, Jessica told Ms. Li, "My work is done. The next step is...space!"

OpenAI has shocked the world with its latest creation, Sora. The AI tool can produce videos up to one minute long. Many people worry that the tool will put many filmmakers out of business.

Similar worries have been voiced since the appearance of the AI chatbot ChatGPT and text-to-image programs like Dall E. Many are afraid that industries (行业) such as programming, translation, teaching and design will all disappear. It seems we can turn to AI for just about anything we want to do.

Does that mean we no longer need to gain knowledge and skills ourselves? Well, the answer is "No". Even in the age of AI, knowledge is still powerful. In fact, it may ask you to use your brain more. AI is knowledgeable, but for now, it needs instructions (指令). In other words, you must communicate with it. For example, you want advice on how to get a better return on your savings. If you don't know anything about finances (经济), you'll have trouble asking the right questions.

You also need to exercise your imagination more actively. Take the Chinese New Year celebration video for example. You need to be clear about your expectations and use your language skills to describe them in as much detail as possible. Where is the celebration taking place? What performances are going on? What are the performers wearing? You may also need to be a bit professional (专业的). For example, "Throw in a close-up of a dragon dancer."

And keep in mind that AI can make mistakes. After AI gives you an answer, you need to judge (判断) whether all the information is correct and up to date. To do this, you need at least some basic knowledge about the related (相关的) subjects.

If you think the development of AI has given you the right to be lazy, it's time to stop day dreaming. Work harder on your studies so that you'll be able to work with AI.

We are happy to say that there's a trip to Apple Farm for all the children in Class 2. The trip is on Wednesday. On this trip, your children learn about farm life and have great fun in the open air.

There are lots of animals on the farm. In the morning, the children can feed the hens and the ducks. They can also see the cows, horses, and sheep. Then the farmer, Mr. James, teaches the children about life on the farm and about where food comes from. In the afternoon, at about 2o' clock, the children can also ride in his big tractor(拖拉机). This is always very popular.

We are traveling by school bus. The bus goes at 9 o' clock, so please don' t be late. Please bring lunch boxes and drinks. Also bring boots, as the farm can be muddy(泥泞的)! It's also sunny at the farm, so bring a sun hat, too. We will be back to school at about 4:00 p. m.
