I was never very neat, while my roommate Mary was extremely organized. Each of her {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（object）had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签）everything. I always looked for everything. She would push my dirty clothing over and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other. Finally, a war broke out one evening.     A good teacher is many things to many people. In my own experience, the people I respect most are the teachers{#blank#}1{#/blank#}demanded the most discipline from their students.

    I miss one teacher in particular that I had in high school. I think she was a good teacher because she was a very strict person.     She prepared her work very carefully and demanded us to do the same. We got lots of homework from her. She checked our work by stamping her name at the bottom of the papers to show that she had read {#blank#}8{#/blank#}

    I think sometimes teachers who demand most are{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（like）least. But {#blank#}10{#/blank#}time goes by, this discipline really seems to benefit the students.

    Beijing Opera roles require performers to paint {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( they) faces in patterns and colours to suggest different character types and{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(quality).

    In Beijing Opera, facial painting can be quite complex(复杂的). However, in the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(begin), only three colours{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(use)-red, white and black. Now, many other colours, such {#blank#}5{#/blank#}yellow, purple, blue and green, are used for facial painting.

    Red is a colour for{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(brave) and loyalty. Guan Yu, a general from the Three Kingdoms Period(AD 220-280) is a good example of this kind of character. He is famous {#blank#}7{#/blank#}being very loyal to his emperor, Liu bei.

    White means all{#blank#}8{#/blank#}is bad in human nature. One of the typical white-faced characters is Cao Cao, a{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (power) and cruel prime minister from the Three Kingdoms Period.

    Black face paint is {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(usual) used for someone who is fierce and violent. One typical example is General Zhang Fei from the classic novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

    All these different colours are used in Beijing Opera facial painting to show a clear picture of each character.

    When foreigners negotiate, or register in certain areas of China, they may be {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(surprise) at Chinese's special fondness and preference for seals. To Chinese, seals are an art of deep cultural roots, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} combines the essence of both calligraphy(书法) and sculpture and inspires generations to study, to appreciate and to collect.

    It is believed that seals came out as early {#blank#}3{#/blank#} 8,000 years ago after our ancestors could make pottery wares(陶瓷)and had private property. They were assumed to make marks on {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(they) own possessions to prevent them from being stolen. When the first dynasty {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(found),the king began to use seals to empower(授权)and to show lordly credits. Only the king's special seal was then called "Xi", {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(represent) the highest authority. The first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, had his "Xi"{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(make) out of the invaluable and beautiful jade "Heshi Bi".

    Then the local governments also needed seals for {#blank#}8{#/blank#} same function. Meanwhile, private seals were carved in a variety of lucky {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(character)and vivid animal patterns.{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(gradual). the sphragistics (印章学) came into being.

    Mr.Johnson lived in the woods with his wife and children. He owned {#blank#}1{#/blank#} farm, which looked almost abandoned. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (lucky), he also had a cow which produced milk every day. Then the Johnsons had to make a living {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the cow. In order to support his family, Mr. Johnson began to plant herbs and vegetables. Since the plants took a while to grow, he started cutting down trees {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (sell) the wood. Thinking about his children's clothes, he started growing cotton too. When harvest came around, he was already selling herbs, vegetables and cotton in the market{#blank#}9{#/blank#} people from the towns met regularly. Now it occurred to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} that his farm had much potential and that the death of the cow was a bit of luck.
